I suggest to open a new thread for this device and it should be listet in the headline beside Arnova, Xoro etc.

After posting the following during the last days I received a (very quick) answer from LookeeTV.

[quote] So I asked puxxi what the reason is to install a "private" firmware. Maybe the reason is that he wants to use 1000 other stations with this website.  And, of course, I´m interested to find out whether the Albrecht DR800 firmware IS the Vs. 189 as well. If Puxxi cannot answer it I will find it out very soon after receiving my new Albrecht device ...

As there was no reply of pixxi, I answer it myself now: Today I received my new Albrecht DR 800 and it seems to be the best device compared to my Arnova and Xoro-collection (but of course it is twice as expensive).

After updating the firmware I now got Vs. 2.6rc0 whatever that means. Manufacturer URL is mentioned with www.LookeeTV.com.
So, I think this will be my MAJOR device (excellent 4,5´´ screen which you can switch to "fullscreen").
No need so far to change the firmware as everything works (Shoutcast, Alarm etc.)

P.S.: (Only 2 days later: William, I need a firmware update!

Compared to my Arnovas and the Xoro I miss the "Favourites" in the main menu. Its very uncomfortable to reach the favourites on the DR 800. And: I must laugh when reading that some people think their Arnova clock is too bright. The Albrecht (digital) clock is a flood light in my bedroom ..! [/quote]

The Lookee reply:

[quote] Thank you for your email.

Yes, we are aware of these issues. We are working on the next firmware which will solve the light issue.
I will get back to you about the My Favourites issue. Please let me know if you have any other questions or comments.
Thank you and best regards,
Malena Poh [/quote]

The advantage of modified firmware is that you can use the database here and do not have to rely on the chinese database that does not get updated.
As for the firmware on the Albrecht/Lookee, its in some ways better and in other ways worse than what is on the others.

The main problem is I think that the Chinese developers are very good in creating new bugs when they try to add new features or fix existing bugs.
They probably do not test their changes very well.

As a result there are old firmwares that have features working that are no longer okay on the newer firmwares.

But I am sure this will soon be over...

William, I can´t await it!

One good firmware for my Arnovas, the Xoro AND the Albrecht DR 800 - that would be a GREAT XMAS PRESENT ..!

(P.S.: Or do you want to say that these Chinese people will stop there work at all ...
perhaps due to the worldwide financial crisis ..? )

Greetings.

Is there a modified firmware for the Albrecht DR 800 that is using the ListenLive.nl channels instead of the "default" database?

Many thanks in advance and best regards.

[quote] Is there a modified firmware for the Albrecht DR 800 [/quote]

Recently we had an update of the "original" firmware.

It was done by Lookee, now the Internet TV and Internet Radio is called "Lookee TV" and "Lookee Radio".
The version is V2.9rc4 now.

After mailing Alan/Albrecht they told that they are not responsible for this firmware and Alan/Albrecht had no answer to the question how the normal user should know the difference between "Alan/Albrecht" software and "Lookee software" which I have now on my device - including quite a lot of strange (canadian or other?) content. Sometimes it doesn´t work at all.

But you should know something before changing this firmware if you use it together with your database:

The uPnP function works without any problems!

Yeah, it is the same manufacterer that makes the firmware for them. Lookee had big ideas about the firmware but thats never going to happen, simply because these guys have no clue how..

Thats good, on that version they use the same Intel UPnP SDK that I have implemented in the new ListenLive firmware..

Sounds great again, William!
I can´t await Rel. 1.4!

Does there already exist a (rough) timeplan for the new release?

As I still have the Albrecht device with original firmware I´m not quite sure whether I had the chance to meet the "killer bug":

Yesterday all my settings were completely deleted after switching the device on, nothing worked but the device showed a strange behaviour.

Finally I was happy that the factory reset still worked:
So I could start again with my setups ...

you can do a firmware update with only the "passwd" file (root::0:0:root:/:/bin/sh.), only delete the password hash

you only have to change the "software_version=V2.9rc5" (only higer then 2.9rc4) in the update-script:
hardware_version=BSI
software_version=V2.9rc5
type_version=BSI-6636D01
md5_check=update-script
md5_check=update-files.tar.gz
md5_check=uImage_yltc
command_execute=flash_eraseall /dev/mtd1
command_execute=nandwrite_mlc -a -o /dev/mtd1 /uImage_yltc
command_execute=flash_eraseall /dev/mtd2
command_execute=nandwrite_mlc -a -o /dev/mtd2 /uImage_yltc
command_execute=rm /uImage_yltc -f
command_execute=mount -t yaffs2 /dev/mtdblock6 /mnt/mtdblock6
command_execute=umount /etc
command_execute=rm /update-files.tar.gz.md5 -f
command_execute=rm /update-script.md5 -f
command_execute=rm /uImage_yltc.md5 -f

modified the 2.6rc0 update from the lookeetv site

then you can connect with telnet
in mnt/mtdblock7/ you will find
fav.xml --> radio
fav_bk.xml --> potcast
fav_itv.xml --> tv

so you can sort and backup your favorites and add new stations

i suggest to try "Telnet Dateimanager" its very nice to browse devices by telnet
http://www.hifi-forum.de/extURL.php?goURL=http://www.informenta.de/privat/Telnet_Dateimanager.ZIP

i hope the listenlive-firmware for the lookee will come soon
but till then its better than nothing

can upload my modified update, if william will allow it
hmmm, cant upload the page says "Sorry your file was not uploaded, it failed verification"
file is rar, used winrar 4.10, seems william wont allow it

geetings
achim

Warning, do not use the above.. there is a extremely big chance to kill your device with it.
Lookeetv gets their code just like all the other models from the Chinese manufacturer and they have NO idea what they are doing.

William, I have NOT forgotten my Envivo experiences and I´m still trembling with fear while awaiting the next few days ..!
(@all: that´s an inside joke! William is only afraid that he will have even more work than he already has!  )

@puxxi: Thank you for your detailed information but at the moment I do not dare to change anything concerning firmwares ...
I think that it should be further discussed what you suggest.

Perhaps its time to release a firmware for this model too.
That gives you an alternative.
I know that if you want to update to the latest official update this is the path it takes. That does not make it the right path though.

Besides the stupidity in their script, there is also the killerbug present on all their firmwares.
I have repaired a number of boxes that all had the same problem.
In some cases it revealed itself after updating to the listenlive firmware, mainly because more space was used and there was already flash corruption in the empty spaces.
I initially thought it was caused by worn out flash memory or so.. but thats not true. It also happens with brand new devices which of course is correct for a random corruption.

A friend described it pretty nicely in pseudo code:
if (startDate > time(3Months)) { corruptFlashRandomly(asBadlyAsPossible); return hahaYouAreBuyingANewBox; }

In other words, they either were to dumb to do things right or they did it on purpose..

so make me love you and release the firmware

i know that the update is a little bit dangerous, my first device was a arnova and i killed it

but i tested the recovery mode of the lookee, that worked well and decided to take the risk

i now writing e-mails for a week or so with the lookeetv team and they can’t make “Radio HNA” (a local radio) run

so i tested a little bit and got it work, but i think they are a little stupid

i send them the data of my own “fav.xml” and they write back that they got it to work, but nothing appeared in their list

i wrote them that there is nothing, they write back a few minutes later that they fix it very soon, but now two days gone and still no “Radio HNA”

the other stations I send them worked well from the beginning

but test the telnet program, a guy over at “hifi-forum.de” wrote it and it’s the best i see so far

The lookeetv team does not have access to the database. It is not their database, they have to rely on the Asian manufacturer.
In fact, Lookeetv is just a reseller. An expensive reseller.. They also act as a distributor.
When you get a device from Albrecht you pay a double margin because Lookeetv buys from Asia and redistributes to Albrecht.
Also they do not have access to the firmware code and have very little influence on what is changed in there.

ahhh, i see
they always say our list and our firmware so i thougt it's their own list
they added "SoundtalesFM" for me, but i couldn't find it on iradio168.com
so i expected they have a own seperate one, but that wouldn't make it better

today my lookee crashed for the first time

when I turn it on, it shows no wifi-sign in the left down corner, instead it shows a green lan-sign
the point in the bottom line had a different color and the key press sound was turned on and different
only a reset to "firmware defaults" in options helped

luckily I have a backup of my fav-files

Same situation I had, you remember Msg #12??

This seems to happen with these devices by far more often than with the others ...
Time to change the firmware!

So I´m awaiting Vs. 1.41 and - I still hope so - an "image" which is able to satisfy the recovery mode ...

William ..!!!

Mmm, William, am I right that there is NO chance in the next future?

That´s a pity, not only because this is the device where I could use the 1.44 alarm function as it is actually ...

It is not a technical problem to support the 4.5 and 7 inch models. It is just more work to check and make sure all the little differences are okay.
Regarding the alarm, you best chance is with the 3.5 inch models. The 4.5 and 7 inch model have some kernel/bootloader issues with that.
