Topic: nfs + autofs = replace buggy UPnP on SkyTC radios

Many thanks, now it works!

1. Hint:  Play Button.  I don't have a play button on my small RC.  I tried the Pause button and it plays the folder.  Not everyone knows to press Pause when you wish to play all.  And you need the RC, the buttons on the device does not allow this.

2. Since I changed the workgroup name in the NAS it is found and it works.

So I'm very happy now and keep my Xoro HMT350 and don't send it back to my dealer!

Many Thanks
Klaus

P.S.:  The order of the songs which are played is not correct. It ist not in alphabetical order and the Track information from the ID-Tag ist not used, too.  Also m3u playlists are not working. Is it possible to integrate one of these things?

1. Media Player only plays single files, no  complete folders and no playlists

It can play single files with the [OK] button and play folders with the [PLAY] button. ([REPEAT] toggles randam play)

2. Function Network drives don't work

It uses Samba/CIFS to connect. It connects without problems to any of my 5 NAS drives. (ao. QNap, Zyxel, Maxtor, IOMega) It also plays perfectly fine from "My Music" share that holds a gazilion mp3's. On occasion it does not detect all of my NAS drives when I select network drive. When I retry it sees them and has no problems. This is probably related to timeouts and how the network is configured.
This probably has something to do with timeouts.
The Internal flash and the SD card are also shared from the device to the network so that you can copy files from a PC to the device.
Did you set, under network settings, the correct workgroup name and use a unique device name?

3. Media Player has Problemes with German characters like ä,ö,ü,ß

Ok, my bad.. will fix that asap.

So I cannot use Media Player to listen to my music collection on Synology NAS and UPNP isn't working at all.  So for doing this (!)  the actually 1.3 LL Fw. ist worse than the original Fw, isn't it?

If you just look at the mediaplayer functionality yes, (I did not force you to use this firmware)
however.. if you take into account that the original firmware has a couple of routines that are likely to kill the contents of your flash memory some day.. you might be better of reporting bugs and getting them fixed and use the firmware here.

Actually I have 3 Problems:

1. Media Player only plays single files, no  complete folders and no playlists
2. Function Network drives don't work
3. Media Player has Problemes with German characters like ä,ö,ü,ß

Hi,

When using LL Fw 1.3, does I need to change the kernel or not?
Is it possible to mount a NFS automatically without using a SD-Card  (only internal memory)?

Having HMT350 RM003,  no rootpw set, what do I have to do?

The LL1.3 firmware has everything needed inside even some kernel fixes.
Besides that you can probably not replace the kernel anyway since there are a lot of specific hardware things inside the kernel that you can no do without.

Ok, in the meantime I also got vsftpd working (got tired of transfering files over http). I also uploaded the files in the Downloads section (see backup_andy.tgz).

To get the stuff working you'll need:

0. Make sure you understand the modifications you are going to do. Pay special attention to the scripts in /etc and DO NOT just overwrite the existing files on your device with those I provided (I included them in the archive just to show you a working example).

1. telnet connection to your device running a firmware based on kernel 2.6.24.3.
2. copy MOST files in the directories, as they are in the archive -- use wget and an SD card (for local storage) for this/
3. be VERY CAREFUL with files /etc/passwd and /etc/init.d/rcS ,i.e., modify then to suit your device.
4. an empty directory in the archive means -- that directory has to be created and left empty.
5. to write files use:
umount //etc (this should allow you to actually write files under /etc initially mounred with tmpfs).
mount -o remount,rw / (allows you to write files anywhere on the root fs.).

At the end of this, you should have ftp and auto-mounts over NFS working from the local SD card in /mnt/mmc/hdd_nfs.

Good luck !

@penbex:  I uploaded the files (well, at least I hope).

@penbex: I sent you an email . Btw, I did not compile/test a whole new kernel So far I did not see a reason for doing it. Btw, from Ingenic, I've got some old Qtopia (based on qpe 1.6.1) running. If this is of any help to you, let me know (but I guess not...).

Downloads menu then choose the upload button.
Files should be less than 8 mb I think.. Need to increase that when I have time..
or just mail me..

recompiled kernel is fine too
or whatever you have for me

can also add me on msn etc. if you like.. could go faster that way..

@penbex:

Yep, I had to recompile the kernel (well, the dependent modules actually).  On my hmt 350 fw 1.8.9 I run linux 2.6.24.3. Anyways, if the kernel version matches, I could just upload the files (if I knew how);  this would be a nice addition for your upcoming fw .

Cheers,
andy

Hmm.. I checked but NFS was missing stuff in the Kernel I think. What kernel version do you have?
Sure, upload the files. I will put them in the download directory.

Hi,

I manged to get working automatic network /share mounts using NFS and autofs.  This way I can finally get rid of the buggy UPnP implementation provided by SkyTC. The trick is to always have a VFAT SD card  plugged in your device, such that the network shares get mounted by autofs in a directory on the card. Then, I simply use "Play local media" to actually play the media files .

If anyone is interested, I can post the relevant files.
