You should not upload anything to the device.. use an SD card for extra storage. Uploading means it is writing to the flash memory and that is the main killer for these devices!

When I want to go the menu "Settings", then it's freezing. Without being able to go to the "Settings" I guess I can't upload anything.

Let me first try opening it without destroying it completely and see about J4. I also have to order the ttl converter. Will take some weeks as I don't have so much time for personal hobbies.
By the way, in "general" the device is still working. I can select Line-In and hear music, I can play from SD as well from Internal memory. ...

Oh, and when you get as far as filesystem errors and fixing them, you really need to install the listenlive recovery kit. This kit creates an alternative (dual) boot option. When the device fails again the alternative boot can be used to fix it with an SD card only. Note that the recovery kit is available for all users that have the listenlive firmware installed.

The menu navigation is a very simple routine and does not use any external sources. So it is just processor time and video memory. These are fairly stable components and are not that likely to go bad. However, the main program is loaded from flash memory which gets corrupted due to the nasty routines in the Original firmware. Also the drivers for video might have been affected as the Linux kernel is also located in flash.
In case an Arnova goes bad, the only thing that can be done is: - Open the case - Look for J4 on the main PCB - Solder a serial to ttl converter to the board so you can connect a serial port to it. Note: the converter must be for 3.5 volts. - See if the Arnova gives anything on the serial port. Note:There are 6 or so Arnova models.. some of these have the serial console via J4 disabled and no output is shown. (actually only a dot . is visible) - If it talks via J4 you can try to manually repair the software. Note: It all depends on what is damaged. If the bootloader is damaged: game over, if the kernel has been damaged: probably also game over.. unless you have a good kernel and a way to load it.. If some other software is damaged, it might be possible to rename the bad files and put new files on it. that way the damaged parts stay allocated and the new files could be used for normal operations again. for bootloader and kernel issues it simply costs way too much time (days!) to get it fixed. For file system errors you can post your findings and I will try to give some help.

Sad, I hate to throw away things. I have electronics background and no fear to open and solder a bit. Anything can be done there ?

No, most Arnova's are nearly dead due to the timebomb causing corrupted memory.. The Arnova's are the cheapest of the whole family and were not really designed to be repairable. I thought the warnings were clear.. I have added additional warnings in the Arnova loader readme files. Here it is as well:
WARNING: The update process is not without risk! The Arnova models are the cheapest devices within the family. They were designed in such a way that repairs are difficult. The original firmware has some sort of a timebomb where it corrupts flash memory, due to the long time these devices have been around, there is a big risk in hitting bad blocks during the update process and crashing the device. If your device is already working badly then for sure DO NOT perform the upgrade! In any other case, only perform the upgrade if you accept the risk and accept the fact that you can be lucky and end up with a nicely working device or you end up with a device that you can throw away because it is dead.

Hello, I wanted to give your firmware a try with my "Arnova web Radio and TV".
Unfortunately I can't navigate to the settings. Everytime I'm moving the selection to it is freezing.
Is there any secret key combination to reset the device into factory defaults ?
Thanks, Markus
