yes, german language. The server is configured with de_DE.UTF-8 locale.

Thats not how it should be of course, it most cases these issues were present with Samba shares and have been resolved.
Are you using "German" as language?
I will do some checking.

When using the Media Player with NFS, german umlauts in files and folders are shown as square.
