If I try to escape from the FM radio mode (in order to do some other things) the radio continues to play and there is no possibility to interrupt it. |

Please be not surprised with my request because I know the project is in progress but I've just found a small bug.
I believe it's not a serious fault and it could be corrected in a new firmware but please draw you attention to it.
Sometimes during listening to the radio it may happen the following:
If I try to escape from the FM radio mode (in order to do some other things) the radio continues to play and there is no possibility to interrupt it.
Only hard switch off can help it.
Please check it.
Thanks a lot in advance!

the XORO/ARNOVA: wlan does not hold, has to be selected and verified
every time you turn on the unit.
but even when connected, it is very unstable, disconnecting every minute,
then reconnecting. again and again. both on POWER SAVE and FULL
settings. the router is 2m away.
but then, the language file seems ok.
so, william, make sure these issues are not carried forward into the public
release 1.47 then!
greetings - heinz -
PS: despite your reservations, did a 'downgrade' from 1.46b to 1.45.
worked fine, no language file problems i could find, and after clearing and
resetting WLAN configs, that also is fine - and holds power off/on!

have a nice mix now: a PEARL with 1.46b, the ENVIO with 1.44, and the two others with 1.45.

you misunderstood: the language on the XORO was already screwed up after doing the normal update to 1.46b --> and when downgrading to 1.45, it just remained screwed up. |
I will look into it.
Added one more check against this.

i sure did, thats why i am trying around. there were no bugs with 1.46b on the PEARL at all.
>> "not keeping a connection" my experience is that it is not a matter of loosing the settings
>> but a matter of not making the connection in time
could well be, the effect is the same - it simply does not connect, however often i try.
and only on the ARNOVA and XORO with 1.46b.
>> As for the going back to 1.45 and the language screwed up, that you probably
>> should have checked first
you misunderstood: the language on the XORO was already screwed up after doing the normal update to 1.46b --> and when downgrading to 1.45, it just remained screwed up.
on the ARNOVA, the downgrading worked just fine - i could detect no language problem. AND the wlan connection works again and holds after turning off and back on.
>> If I am not mistaken, you can reset the settings, no need to reset the cache/network settings,
>> just the device settings. That should remove the stuck language file.
where, please? i dont want to make a mistake.
>>As for the next public release, to avoid confusion it will be version 1.47
if its not too long, i guess i wait for that one. for all three units ...
>> Also the recovery mode tools will be released soon
most interesting - that should help a lot.
many greetings - heinz -

so, short update: - downgrade of the ARNOVA to 2.45 worked fine, with the same procedure as an update. and now the WLAN connection is remembered again, and logs in when turned on. - downgrade of the XORO failed. it now says 2.45, but that mssg of INTERNET TV is all over, overwriting many other mssgs, and making any use of the unit impossible. pity i cannot include a screenshot to make myself more clear. greetings - heinz - |
Hi,
It is a beta version, so you can expect bugs Also, as you can see on the first post there were already a number of things discovered.
Regarding the "not keeping a connection" my experience is that it is not a matter of loosing the settings but a matter of not making the connection in time.
I found it did not connect on some bootup's. the beta has a faster way of connecting, which is actualyl fine, but it times out too fast.
As for the going back to 1.45 and the language screwed up, that you probably should have checked first.
The 1.46 language is still on your device and the 1.45 firmware will not "update it" (back to 1.45 format) unless it sees a newer language file.
The 1.46 language file is not fully compatible. So the trashed language lines are normal in this case..
If I am not mistaken, you can reset the settings, no need to reset the cache/network settings, just the device settings. That should remove the stuck language file.
If not, let me know and I will push it from the server side.
As for the next public release, to avoid confusion it will be version 1.47.
It has the fixes (compared to 1.46beta) as mentioned in the first post.
I am really happy with the current state of 1.47 and it will be released as soon as possible.
I am currently adding one new app (Asian radio app) and as soon as that is done it will be released.
The aim is to release it in the next few days!
Also the recovery mode tools will be released soon. I have managed to get things working for most of the older models.
What it means is this: on older devices that do not have the recovery mode, you can install the recovery mode through the loader.
Once the recovery mode is there you test if it works and if it does, forget about it.. When the device crashes badly, you can recover through the recovery mode.

tried it with three units:
- PEARL
upgraded with no problems, after all was finished and rebootet found WLAN network, logged in and
started with the LL-home screen (the icons). all worked normally afterwards.
- ARNOVA
upgraded with no problems, after all was finished and rebootet did NOT find WLAN network, had to be found (was), and setup new (WPA passw). after that logged in and started with the LL-home screen (the icons). all worked normally afterwards.
BUT: it does not hold the network settings. network and PW have to be manually entered after every switch off and on. a real nuisance.
- XORO
upgraded with no problems, after all was finished it displayed a mssg UNPLUG POWER AND RESTART - that mssg was not there with the PEARL/ARNOVA.
after reboot it did NOT find WLAN network, had to be found (was), and setup new (WPA passw). after that logged in and started with the LL-home screen (the icons). all worked normally afterwards.
BUT: it does not hold the network settings. network and PW have to be manually entered after every switch off and on. a real nuisance.
AND: wherever a screen normally displays a PRESS OK TO CONTINUE (or ANY KEY), this unit now displays the words INTERNET TV ! makes no sense at all, looks like some text files got screwed up.
so, thats where i am. will try some more fiddeling tonight, but if above stays, will return to 1.45 (which
worked fine on all three models) - or wait for 1.47 ...

Thank you very much for your explanation, William.
I´m not quite sure whether I understood everything, seems to be a kind of "parameter hardcore".
I think the best is to wait for the fix and see what will happen early in the morning ..!

I see that two things are incorrectly mixed.
In the current firmware, the alarm sound is played a number of times with a 10 seconds interval.
The number of times it plays equals the number of repeats under settings.
This was done (upon request) so that the alarm is not going to ring all day long in case you forgot to deactivate the alarm or you was not home but the alarm was set anyway.
By itself not a bad idea of course to stop the alarm. If you pick an alarm sound of 30 seconds, we can assume you woke up with an alarm playing for like 2 minutes at the minimum..
Also the initial repeat of the alarm sound itself is not bad, because you might actually sleep through the first alarm. Then the others should wake you up.
Note that this 10 second repeat is the normal alarm sound playing and not getting any response! Thus it continues to try to wake you up..
This is then not a snooze alarm but simply no action.. You could still be sleeping, or even be out of the room..
Now as soon as the alarm sounds and you press a snooze button, the interval duration is set to whatever you picked under settings.
The number of repeats also is set to what you have under settings. So far it all seems to work correctly and as expected.
However, the incorrect mix I mention is that the number of repeats is not reset when going from normal alarm sound repeats to snooze repeats.
Obviously it should be a fresh value and not be only one or two snooze repeats left because you did not press the snooze right away.
I fixed this in the code. Now the two repeat counters are not longer linked to eachother.

Quote/User manual:
---------------------------------------------
If the alarm is set to one of the preloaded alarm sounds, the sound is played and the snooze function is activated. This means the sound will be repeated every x seconds (??) until the user presses a button.
Pressing the four directional pad or the
OK button will shut off the alarm sound but keep the snooze activated. This means that the alarm will be repeated after x number of minutes (??) for up to x times. The x is user selectable as explained in sections 6.3.5 and 6.3.6.---------------------------------------
Is it possible to check this description above? I use the "bird" alarm now on one of my XOROS. After pressing one of the mentioned buttons the first time only seconds later the second alarm starts again without regarding my presets (alarm 5 times every 10 minutes).
After the second alarm there is the requested break of 10 minutes for the first time. But mostly it seems not to be repeated 5 times.
Anybody else with experiences concerning standard alarms and snooze/repeat problems?

Jamcast, no idea yet. The upnp/dlna implementations are like a minefield.
Many problems with devices in general. If you look at widely used solutions like XBMC the upnp part is filled with fixes and modifications.
I will look into it later. I first need to get one bug fixed (threading related) with the covers so the release can go public.

But seems like Jamcast is one of the programs that is able to stream to DLNA/UPnP devices. |
I also tweaked the Jamcast device settings to no avail.
Using My Music -> Playlists -> Virtual Soundcard instead gave me a never ending hierarchy of "Virtual Soundcard" directories...
Any idea why the device wont play the Jamcast stream? Jamcast looks promising, but with both my bluray media player AND the Listenlive device not being able to successfully play its stream, it is no viable option...
This is becoming frustrating and quite time-consuming...

In the news, the lines should be broken down to screen size and put in multiple lines..

Yeah, I got id3 tags now within the mp3. One NAS had a too old twonky..
Still the ID3 tool and mplayer both do not catch it.. I see the data in the binary though.
I am sure it can be solved.. just do not know how yet

Perhaps it depends on what software is used on the storage side. I think my qnap nas uses twonkymedia. |
Stabilizing UPnP first was a good idea and the results are highly appreciated!
It might well be that the additional file info does the trick - if it were the storage side software, other clients (bluray player, Windows etc.) would not be able to get cover art or ID3 tags, too.

I tried with some URL's (requesting the mp3 as plain binary data) and the id3 tags are gone...
Perhaps it depends on what software is used on the storage side. I think my qnap nas uses twonkymedia.
I see there were some problems in the past with ID3 and UPnP server softwares. But these should have been solved.
I will try to do some more tests with a Zyxel nas.
Also, there are ways to get more info via UPnP (request additional file info), so far I did not add support for that and rather tried to make UPnP itself work more stable as a first priority.

I think rendering is actually what is the problem with UPnP. The storage device gives an url to the content to our devices. |
Furthermore, if I access the UPnP URL via Windows, the full .mp3 file with all embedded tags is received.
For my use case, it would suffice if the device were accessible as a UPnP/DLNA renderer, Airplay is not necessary.

Hi,
I think rendering is actually what is the problem with UPnP. The storage device gives an url to the content to our devices.
This is then treated as a stream and there is no id3 or embedded image included with this stream.
It seems that ID3/image have to be obtained in a different way. Not sure how yet.
While it is a little hurdle to fix id3/embedded images, it also means that streaming from any souce must be possible.
This is something about streaming spotify to iphone/ipad/ipod.. same might work for us..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq1d97V_oSU
Spotify does not like the streaming to other devices too much unless its some special hardware like sonos/airplay etc.
http://gnarld.com/spotify-bans-dlna-app-for-ps3/
But seems like Jamcast is one of the programs that is able to stream to DLNA/UPnP devices.
I might also be able to add airplay etc. but that only makes sense if there is a need/use for it.

The idea is to have audio output from a PC or Smartphone redirected to the device. This way I could use my laptop to "tunnel" audio like Spotify or Last.fm to the device. No wires, no broken Line In, less need to provide apps for all the various audio services on the device itself...

- I keep having troubles with ID3 (v2.3 only) tags via UPnP - artist and album do not show up (N/A) and (embedded) cover art (e.g. 1000x1000 px, 178 KB JPEG) often does not display as well.
Edit: It seems as if the ID3v2.3 tag is not used at all, just the filename (without the .mp3 extension) is shown in the artist field (I guess the media player simply uses the UPnP directory entry for this), so it reads:
(title) N/A
(artist) Yellow Submarine
(album) N/A
The new media player layout with more room for cover art is a nice step forward, I just wonder why << and >> buttons are displayed at all. IMHO, only the status indicating icons (play/pause, repeat, shuffle) make sense for the media player display. - When browsing UPnP directories, I noticed that the position of the active entry is remembered - a good idea, but if I enter a subdirectory, the first entry should always be selected. Only when returning from this subdirectory to the parent one, the remembered entry should be selected again.
e.g. if I switch from an artist to the third of his/her albums, the third entry in the list of songs is selected, so simply entering the directory and pressing play will not always start with the first song.
Boot time is remarkably faster and UPnP responsiveness and stability seems to have improved as well.
Thanks and keep going!

I recently tried the Line-In functionality and was a bit frustrated - is there any chance to increase volume and/or quality? |
1.46 has volume control for line-in.
Other than that, not much we can do.
Line in hardware goes to the mixer hardware and there does not appear to be a way to control the audio itself in any way.
All I can do is select input sources to go to the standard output.

I'm assuming that, if either the envivo or Disgo loaders is recognised, the LL Firmware will load OK? (I'm pretty certain the insides of the Envivo & Disgo are the same). |
Hi.. The Envivo loader should work.
Quote:
I see that pianista has switched from the LL firmware, back to the original (on a Xoro). Is the possible? I thought the latest firmware couldn't be undone? |
This only works on the older Xoro model and by using the recovery mode. Thuis also brings back the timebomb that is in the original firmware.
If damage is too much, the recovery can not fix that though. So its not very smart to go back.
Pianista turned back since he had issues with the Wifi.
Quote:
Needed a reboot after update, as remote wasn't recognised.
Swirly timer bar also got locked after 10 seconds (think that was something to do with finding wifi in earlier firmware). Did it again on reboot. Once wifi details entered, not seen it do it again.
WiFi indicator... seems to have 2 symbols for "connected"... standard radar bars (which I'd expect), and another symbol - looks a bit like Omega - which I didn't expect. Seems connected fine with both... is there a meaning to the second? |
Wifi is improved in the upcoming 1.46. Also download the Listenlive manual that explains various symbols and much more.. it is available where you download the firmware..
Quote:
I don't suppose the "page up" "page down" keys could revert to this function, not screen brightness? With so many Radio & TV stations to scroll, there'd be less button pushing. |
List scrolling is done with left/right/up/down.. left/right moves pages.. and when at the top of the list, going up/left will take you to the end of the list..
Makes it easy to go to stations at the end of the alphabet. (Explained in the manual also)
Quote:
I'm getting a high number of "Server connection failed, try another later... On TED I'm getting Caching data 95% and no further...followed by that message when I press a key... |

Help! After updating to firmware 1.45 (from original Xoro 1.89) my Xoro HMT350
510.2 RM002 works well except it can't keep a wifi connection. Put next
to the router, the strength is very good (3 bars) and connects - for
only 2 seconds. Then it breaks off. I tried "permanent connection", it
didn't help. It's on DHCP. I had to change back to Xoro 1.89 FW, which
did work, and it keeps wifi well and streams OK. But I would love to use
Llfirm if only wifi worked. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a bug? |
Same problem on my Xoro HMT350. Randomly from time to time it works after turning off + on again several times. But mostly it shows a good wifi connection, LL crossed out in red and after 1 seconds the message 'Server connection failed, try again later ...'.
Behaviour after pressing back is also strange then, no internet functions working at all, e.g. empty station list within the countries, twitter shows instead of tweets error messages like 'line.xml?include_entities=true&include_rts=true&'

Hi OTT, no need to repost.. due to spammers the forum is in moderation mode.
I will make some changes so that posts from trusted people will show up right away.
I noticed that some mp3's have rather large embedded cover art. This is causing some problems.
This could issues with volume etc. as it might eat up all resources.
Already working on this.

If it is possible to increase the number of FM presets?
I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the existing number of presets (only 7) in modern reality is not enough.
Take it into account, please.

Today I produced another BIG BUG or my Xoro is bricked... I played a song from SD, then turned it off. Removed the SD. When I turned it back on, it tried to play from the last source and froze. After disconnecting the power everything seemed fine, but now the only audio I get is from FM. Every internet audio source gives me an instant connection error "Server connection failed", although I can read twitter, news, etc. LL is white, Wireless radar symbol is white and has 3 bars... Tried to play from SD: I can browse, select files but it either tries to "connect" without success or jumps back to the folder after a second. I reseted keeping WLAN settings, deleting cache. No improvement. I overwrote the 1.45 with 1.45 Firmware. Still not working again. Do you have any suggestions, how to fix this? |
I have done the steps as you describe and have no problems after the reboot.
Possibliy the cache is damaged. Although the way you describe with playing from SD card sounds more like a damaged mplayer file.
Best would be to connect via telnet and check the responses. Mail me if you want to try that.

Go to Settings > Remote control Settings > Remote Control model
and press Ok.. when asked to press Mute press the Mute button on the remote control.
This should set the remote control to the "Extended" model and the clock button will work again.

I have noticed on my Xoro that the stock charts have problems to update. When flipping through the sub-menu, I can see the Amsterdam-Index and maybe see the ones listed above, but not the ones below. "Chart not available" Would it be possible to preset another stock index or stock or even list of stocks? |
Hi, There was a bug. Stocks will be working properly in 1.46

Re samba sorting post before, I found the menu item for Alphabet sort and it works well, except when you go in reverse. So once you have played an album, you go backwards out of the media player and it's jumbled again. The repeat button has no effect. Not a huge issue but a bug on the OTEK. |
Sorting is with the FAV button. The repeat button controls the shuffle/repeat mode.

Is there currently a way to have continuous play of samba album directories? As in one after another? A useful feature. |

And a biggie now. I was playing an album via samba, and when the song is loaded, the screen freezes and unit plays the song, but becomes totally unresponsive to user input and has to be power cycled. I believe it's an ID3 issue. Shall I email you the file for analysis? |

Can someone do me a explanation of the wifi symbols and what they mean. I can't connect to wifi with this firmware although had no problem with the original supplied firmware. The features all look fantastic but unfortunately I'm prevented from trying them due to the wifi issue. There has also been some issues where it decided not to see wifi connections when scanned and they only returned after doing a default setting reset. I'm only using the old wep system of encryption. Lets say my key was X334B2BBD7C18 on key 1 How should I enter that into this firmware? How can I use the symbols to indicate what the problem is? |
First of all, WEP can be broken within minutes by anyone that can use standard software (no need to be a crypto expert).
If you are using this and think your WIFI is safe, then you better start reading about how easy it is to get into networks that use WEP.
If you still want to use WEP, your key is in Ascii format. So you have to enter it as Asci and not as Hexadecimal.
Juster enter the key 1 value and enter 1 as key to use for WEP.
That should do it.
If you get a message that the connection failed and you are sure you entered everything correctly, then turn off and on. This often helps.
Upcoming v1.46 has improvements in how the connection is build up.

Alarm clock is set to wake me with the latest station but it simply rings ... horrible. |
Correct, found this to be buggy. Somehow the code decides the stream is not working and triggers the alternative or so.
Already looking into this.
Note that using an MP3 file from the SD does work fine as alarm sound,
so does FM radio (for people who have a device with FM radio hardware - for people who want to mod the hardware: it might be possible to fit the FM chip as the driver does a chip detection)
Quote:
Also when choosing the last played station as ringtone, confimation is the ringing sound. |
This is actually correct behaviour. The selection does not play the stream but just sets it to be played.
So far this works fine. The alternative ring tone is just used for setting the alarm volume.
However, I agree that this is not clear. So will put some notification there.

Relating to the pin I am not sure what to do. Do you want me to change my username? Or should I set up a new account?
And now some findings:
Alarm clock is set to wake me with the latest station but it simply rings ... horrible. Also when choosing the last played station as ringtone, confimation is the ringing sound.
Samba: Also strange behaviour. Now Media Player in samba not only detects my servers, it also detects most of the shares ... all on a win xp engine and one on a linux router with attached hd and none on a second linux router (same build). Still the shares remain empty allthough the arnova is busy for a really long time (10 mintes and more). Quite astonishing: There is a new server in my set, a wdtv live (mediaplayer with attached hd) which is not protected by username and pw and here samba works as expected. According to my needs this is just a finding but no solution

One more point ist the Loader for the Arnova. I downloaded it again and put it on the sd-card along with the 1.45 fw. Update failed with a checksumerror. So i went back to the loader I downloaded some months ago with the 1.43 and this time updating to 1.45. worked well, but all of my settings were gone ... network, favourites, language ... nothing to worry about, but in the past, settings suvived the update.
Apart from the samba issue (and the alarm which might be easily fixed) the Arnova now is a great device, useful and responsive. Pls accept my sincere kudos for your work, William. What is especially useful for me: the cache in case there is no connection to your server. Compared to my logitech squeezebox in the kitchen, which often fails - especially when my wife feels the need to listen to radio - because of poor logitech servers, I am really happy doing it your way with the tiny Arnova. Of course I can heal some of the squeezebox issuse by setting up a logitech server in my environment, but that is not the proper solution when getting up at 5 in the morn. *grmpf* So thank you again. And I (again) promise a major donation as soon as samba works all over my network.

Leave the name and email as they are.
then enter the pincode that you want to use

That should do it. Many users already have set a pincode and have the fav function working.
Can you change your name? or do you get the same error?

Hi William! When I do right understand is the pin code for editing the favorites on the radio. In the settings on the listenlive.nl page I can't verify any pin code. One point is the sleeping time, not showing clock after switching off the unit, even when you choose this option. |

Sorry to add to your potential workload.
Feedback: I am getting the mp3 id3 tag weirdness too, and seems to be happening with files containing both old and new id3 tag versions. I've had a few freezes on samba streaming too, but I think caching tweaks might fix that. I also updated my second otek from 1.44 last night and the sd card wouldn't invoke the loader at all... strange. I had to do it via the LL menu option.
FEATURE REQUEST: Would it be possible to have a confirmation on screen when the power button on the remote or device is pressed? I've accidently hit the respective buttons a couple of times, and the unit powers off instantly. Which means rebooting, waiting for connection, re-entering samba passwords etc.
Perhaps a 'Would you really like to turn off?' type prompt would be great.
Thanks again,
Matthew.

XORO:
The XORO devices still show the same bug as before (1.44) concerning the alarm clock:
I still want to GET RID OF THIS FU ........ ALARM!! But the device is still switched on at the first alarm time, the alarm time 1 is still shown although they are both SWITCHED OFF and the alarm melody is played. And: After that my volume is different as before and has to be changed again by me.
The alarm settings as shown: Wecker 1 [AUS], Wecker 2 [AUS], Alarm hardware (On).
I find no way at all to switch this f...... alarm hardware (off).
The result: Now again I have to unplug power until I want to use my devices. That´s very bad!
ENVIVO:
Still on 1.40 because the recovery version 1.40 is not updatable to 1.45.
ARNOVA:
Seems to be my only device at the moment that works as desired ...
EDIT: By the way, is there NO other user with a XORO device who doesn´t use (does not want to use) the alarm clock but gets the alarm??

Hi William, some days ago I've posted a message about the problems I had with the audio cache, that the connection dropped and the cache seemed not big enough to cover that. After installing the latest firmware I must admit however that it seems a lot better! Great! |
Hi, 1.45 has under volume and player settings the minimal streaming cache, this was already there in older versions but now can be set to 2% as well.
I added the 2% to still have a fast start of playing when using the new option "use enlarged audio cache"
"use enlarged audio cache" = OFF > 1mb audio cache
"use enlarged audio cache" = ON > 8mb audio cache

Thanks for the new firmware! Good work!
some feedbacks:
- update for Arnova from 1.44 to 1.45 works fine, no update up to now was difficult or failed
- when playing an album (upnp), after the last song the display does not clear before returning to the songlist, it shows the listing and the player one above the other
missing function
- my old Freecom Musicpal has a remote-function like http://ip_of_musicpal/admin/cgi-bin/ipc_send?somecommand (play URL, show user-text, ...), just as an alternative to DNLA this would be very nice to have

I know You have a lot of work, but nevertheless I kindly ask You to make some improvements in the next version of firmware.
- to add in into the radio screen a new line of 7 radio stations - presets. As a result it would be 14 presets at all ! - That's a mercy!).
7 presets only nowadays are really not enough (we have got more than 35 FM radio stations - Russian radio broadcasting).
- to change colour of "highlighted button" in different menus (keyboard, Yes or No, etc. ) to more contrast colour. Sometimes I get confused or
I can't really recognize the appropriate highlighted position.
Thank you for attention!
p.s. Please check auto searching mode (next radio station) in FM radio. It seems not to work correctly. In comparison with previous version of
firmware I could find 5 stations only! Search is skipping. I didn't change the position of the device.

William, thank you again for your work and patience that you show in the process.Once more on the FM radio. It does not always turn off the green button remote. We have to turn off the device completely.Look mp3-track. His tags (ID3v2.3 UTF-16) in Ukrainian. Cover enclosing a file. Cover immediately, but is visible on the screen. Tags themselves on the screen does not normally read.
The track is located here:xxx (link removed by William/Penbex, thanks for the file.. this will help a lot!!)
Hello, Regarding ID3 v1 and V2. Both are supported up to IDv2.4 - mp3 with id3v1 -> solution: display id3v1 info Now about wrong characters, this is related to: ~William |

Samba finally works on the Otek 510, happy days!
I was wondering what the file sort order is set to when accessing samba shares? It seems completely random and stuff is everywhere.
And I noticed with this firmware update it wiped all device settings (including an incredibly annoying 63 char random wpa2 password that takes forever to input), whereas the last update left it all intact. Will the new config backup option be able to be used after a firmware update in the future or will it corrupt the machine if you do that?
Tiny bug: Entering a static IP address the title of the screen is 'enter username'.
And just general feedback, it took about 3 reboots to get the machine acting properly after firmware update. About 10 less than last time.
Excellent work mate, well done.
Matthew.

Alarm does not work in mode "Last played music". Instead, play the melody. While the radio stream is loaded! |
Tested:
MP3 as last played music works correctly as alarm sound. If you have removed the SD card from which the file was supposed to play it will swtich to fm radio or one of the standard sounds.
Will test Alarm with Internet radio streams next..

Hello,
Regarding ID3 v1 and V2. Both are supported up to IDv2.4
It can also read embedded images and display them.
There is however something that I did not know how to handle well.
The following I have found in MP3's
- mp3 with id3v1 -> solution: display id3v1 info
- mp3 with id3v2 -> solution: display id3v2 info
- mp3 with id3v2 for image and main info in id3v1 -> try to detect this. as a main rule, id3 trackname/artist is read from id3v1 with higher priority than id3v2. I tried the other way around and had several tracks that did not display the id3 info.- - mp3 with id3v2 correct and id3v1 completely filled with spaces or bad characters. -> try to detect this but sometimes it is wrong.
If you see the correct ID3 shortly and then it is gone, this is the case.
Now about wrong characters, this is related to:
a) the location from where files are played and
b) possibly a bug in the character conversion.
If you experience this, please get me the file that does not work correctly.
Also if you have files that have an image inside that does not get displayed Then also try to get me that file.
I will check the file and correct it. (I do not need full cd's or large albums. Just a track or part of a track is enough.
Either mail it, if smaller than 4 mb you can upload it.. or put it on some file sharing site (if needed use encrypted zip) and give me the link.
~William

- Great idea, bit I can't seem to get the settings backup/restore to work. No backup files appear on the SD nor on internal memory.... By the way, if the backup would be created on internal, manually editing from PC would be greatly enhanced, as the file would be accesible through USB! |
The backup does work correctly. Config files are stored on the devices flash disk (of course there need to be a few kilobytes of free space)
However, when you start the device with USB connected, the flash disk gets somehow synced with the USB when the USB is linked to your PC.
Then when you make the backup, nothing will change on the PC side when looking at the flash disk contents. The files are there though.
It simply does not refresh.
I will check this a bit more. Seems there are some issues..

Couple of remarks after update from v1.44 to v1.45 (loader 2.2):
- there should be clear notice that when updating via Settings-->Firmware Update-->Local Update from SDCard user need to follow regular loader procedure after reboot. I run steps from attached Readme.txt file and went to Settings-->Firmware Update-->Local Update from SDCard with SD card inserted. The device thought a while and displayed message that update went OK and rebooted. After reboot I was presented with v2.2 loader menu. I was persuaded that update already finished so turned device off, removed SD card and started again. It turned out update process was half-done. Version in 'About' menu was stil 1.44 but badblocks count was displayed so it was updated. I suppose I had to select update from SD card on loader menu after first reboot so update would continue. I once again rebooted device with SD card in, selected update from SD card in 2.2 loader menu and now all seems to be OK.
- when updating via Settings-->Firmware Update-->Local Update from SDCard there was 'update from v1.44 --> v0' message presented while v1.44-->v1.45 update was done
- forced shutdown via long press to hardware power button does not work in v1.45 anymore
- it's great to see badblocks count in 'about' menu but it reports incorrect numbers. It reports 'Recovery=4 Main=6' while dmesg output reports 13 badblocks on my device.
- from readme.txt: Added: FM app: the FM hardware has a known bug which might cause frequency drifting. Since this is in hardware it can probably not be fixed. However, The [repeat] button now re-tunes to the frequency. <--- where is [repeat] button? Is it on advanced remote only? I found some other (or maybe it is the same idea) workaround: when frequency starts to drift it is enough to change FM station to another and go back and it is enough. It won't drift again until you power down the device.
Quote:
Equalizer: so far have not found any way to do this. Sice you have a xoro, i only have seen eq options in the xoro firmware and i could not hear a difference, can you? |
- adding any stream to FAVourites is great. I really missed this feature.
- config file export is another useful thing.
One another great firmware. Thanks a lot William

Hi, William! Thanks for your work! Found another bug: the media player does not display song titles and tags radio. Flashes briefly and disappears! (Last Edited by lev64 on November 11, 2012, 1:22 pm) |

Some suggestions for futute developement : - Subtitle support?? - Enable remote USB access to SD card?? - Recording from other digital audio sources than standard internet radio.... (ie TuneIn) ? - FAV assignment and recall for other digital audio sources than standard internet radio.... (ie TuneIn) ? - Some form of automated feed-back system to the listenlive database, most importantly for streams that don't play (anymore)?? - Some form of (pre-set) equalizer function ? - Some form of audio 'normalize' function ? (sound level now varies greatly between digital streams) Hans |

- What does the "LL" indicator (next to wifi icon) meen??? |
- The loader menu (v2.2) does not respond well to device key-input (on top), only to RC input. - Upnp audio plays well, but video from my Mediatomb NAS still does not |
Great idea, bit I can't seem to get the settings backup/restore to work. No backup files appear on the SD nor on internal memory.... By the way, if the backup would be created on internal, manually editing from PC would be greatly enhanced, as the file would be accesible through USB! |
- Device online update only advices an update is available, but does not actually load it. Is this intentional, missing still, or a bug?? - Device reports 0 bad blloks through settings menu, although from concole log I gather there are some.... How come? |

Alarm does not work in mode "Last played music". Instead, play the melody. While the radio stream is loaded! |

Some first impression feedback :
- What does the "LL" indicator (next to wifi icon) meen???
- The loader menu (v2.2) does not respond well to device key-input (on top), only to RC input.
- Upnp audio plays well, but video from my Mediatomb NAS still does not. On other device they play fine, so it is not (only) Mediatomb related. A Upnp Video seems to load fine, bit then sudenly falls back to the black 'www.listenlive.nl" screen, mixed with file selection menu again. If helpfull I could make console dumps to debug this error.... What would you require?
- Great idea, bit I can't seem to get the settings backup/restore to work. No backup files appear on the SD nor on internal memory.... By the way, if the backup would be created on internal, manually editing from PC would be greatly enhanced, as the file would be accesible through USB!

I have a question or a proposal for a (hope so) new version; I'am using the device as an alarm clock. It's perfect for me now but I'm missing one option. I thought and hoped it was an option in this new version. Using the sleeptimer with audio (from my favourite list) I always switch to the nightclock and I switch on the sleeptimer. When the time is over the device is switching to the radio again and stops playing. My proposal is that the device stops the audio, but keeps displaying the nightclock. When I wake up in the morning I can't see the time now and I have to set the clock again. When it's not possible in a next, or future version it's also oké for me. For the rest, thank you very much for your great work, kind regards Loek. |

William, thanks for the Russian keyboard! But you missed one letter - "Ь". She follows the letter "Ы". The last letter in your keyboard (Г') in the Russian alphabet is missing. |
Sorry about this. Will be fixed as soon as possible.

- update done in approx. 3 minutes
- afterwards the device didn´t respond at first to the remote control (as it did after the previous updates)
- rebooted (via the on/off button at the top) and it works again. Bug or not?
I checked most of the changes up to now - looks like a perfect job! Thanks again for all the fine work and I´ll keep you informed in case I stumble upon anything awkward...

Development and testing of Firmware version 1.47 is finished!!!
It will be available to everyone very soon.
Note: You can only load the 1.43 and newer firmware from the Listenlive Loader Version 2.0 (or higher) !!!
If you are using the original firmware or a Listenlive firmware older than 1.41 you have to update to the new loader first, then load the 1.44 firmware.
Bugs/experiences etc. can be reported in this thread or you can use the bugtracker (preferred).
Firmware version 1.47 Bugfixes:
- Added: Metadata (ID3/Coverart etc) support via UPnP
- Fixed: a bug with the playlist not correctly terminating
- Fixed: a bug with some mp3 files not being terminated correctly
- Fixed: Alarm volume is now correctly set for radio/internet streams to the stored alarm volume level
- Changed: Small change to the power up network detect routines in case a connection fails to start.
- Fixed: Covers are only loaded when smaller than 500kb. Large covers were eating up all memory with as result that music did not start as there was no space for it left over.
- Changed: Covers are now loaded in the following order: the same name as music files (with jpg/gif/png extension) are checked first, then a check for folder.jpg/gif/png and then front.jpg/gif/png.
- Changed: ID3 embedded covers will only be loaded when smaller than 500kb. ID3 data from MP3 files with large covers (<1mb) embedded in the ID3 tags can take a while to load. Generic data is displayed until the ID3 is available.
- Added: Metadata now also gets displayed from APE and Flac files.
- Fixed: When no data was available in Twitter, incorrect data was displayed.
- Fixed: Navigating through the 101.ru app did not go to the top of new lists when moving forward in the tree.
- Fixed: Navigating through the SD card did not go to the top of new lists when moving forward in the tree.
- Fixed: Week numbering was incorrect in some cases, now follows ISO8601 specification.
- Fixed: Automatic alarm sound repeats was interfering with the snooze repeat counter.
- Added: proper 301 redirection handling for podcast, vodcast and news feeds.
- Added: MyFavorites app: list can now be displayed according to alphabet. Pres FAV to toggle.
- Added: Rad.io, TuneIn and Tuner apps: list can now be displayed according to alphabet. Pres FAV to toggle.
- Removed: Ted app: Ted seems to have their videos in mixed formats and some of them crash the mplayer. Removed until a solution is available.
- Added: replacing Ted with an Asian Radio app. Note: these are station aimed at asia thus not always broadcasting at western times. Some streams might only be available within the Aisan region.
- Fixed: Faster Network connection was timing out too quickly in some cases. Timeout period has been extended.
- Fixed: Setting time manually displayed a wrong text when it should be asking to enter the time.
- Fixed: Custom stock symbols did not load.
- Fixed: SD card backup/restore texts were incorrect.
- Added: Live365 Member login support, it is now possible to use a premium subscription (set account details under settings) to play your stored favorites from live365.
- Added: Settings/Weather: Setting the Weather forecast location now also can be done with an automatic location detection. The IP address is used to determine your location, so it is not 100% accurate but close enough.
- Changed: rearranged some icons on the main screen to have some of the most used functions on top.
- Added: FM OS driver sometimes looses track and does not terminate correctly. Added a work around.
Firmware version 1.46beta Bugfixes:
- Added: Timezone file was loaded from the wrong location in some cases. This caused problems with the time. Now correctly handles devices like Lookeetv, Aigo, Full-join
- Added: Fontfile location has been adapted so that the pre-loaded 25mb font file is used when it is found. Solves issues with Asian characters.
- Added: Greek language file
- Changed: Keyboard: added character Ь, removed character Ѓ
- Added: Keyboard: [HOME] button on remote now changes the keyboard layout (to quickly change between capitals/small/symbols/cyrillic)
- Added: Logitech Harmony remote control (Emulation of Centrios was not 100% compatible with other Penbex remotes)
- Added: routines for being controlled by a network connected device (eg. ios/android/PC apps) This means an app can be used to control the device (play/stop/menu etc.) even from other rooms..
- Changed: Configuration file backup/restore is now on SD card (flashdisk had some issues)
- Fixed: Setup: Analog clock in nightclock mode selection failed.
- Added: Setup: Displaying of cover art can be disabled under display settings.
- Added: Line-In app: up/down now also control the volume (matching with the other apps)
- Changed: Weather app: new screen layout
- Added: Vodcast app now supports more video formats.
- Fixed: stocks app: there was a problem loading updates.
- Changed: FM app: mono/stereo and signal strength indicator are now real time.
- Fixed: FM app: frequency scanning function was failing in most cases.
- Fixed: FM app: out of band hits on frequency scan are now rejected
- Changed: FM app: When auto start FM on power on is selected the FM radio starts much faster now and does not wait for network initialization.
- Changed: Alarm: when FM radio is selected, the antenna message is now ignored when switching to the FM screen even when set to display that message as it does not make sense for the alarm to be stuck on it.
- Changed: Alarm: was not playing radio streams correctly.. most were not fast enough.
- Changed: Alarm: now also checking if Internet streams are actually playing, if not it will do the fall back to fm/standard sounds.
- Changed: Alarm: reactivcation routine is now done before the alarm kicks in. This should solve problems with a new/next alarm not being set correctly.
- Changed: MediaPlayer: UPnP Issue with TV stream location parsing solved.
- Changed: MediaPlayer: improved stream detection and parsing
- Changed: MediaPlayer: Samba Network scan is now optional. When entering Samba, a list of favorites and a scan option is shown. Found servers are remembered until power-down.
- Changed: MediaPlayer: Samba/Cifs: Fixed a login issue with the Synology Nas and possibly some others.
- Changed: MediaPlayer: The Samba/Cifs favorites that can be stored under settings, now also have an option to store username and password
- Changed: MediaPlayer: Changed screen layout, decreased button size and increased cover art image.
- Changed: MediaPlayer: M3U files are now properly parsed and existing! files are added to the playlist automatically.
- Changed: network: better detection of incorrect wifi password on connection.
- Added: network: detection and removal of damaged wifi password file.
- Changed: network: max performance option now loaded before wpa_supplicant.
- Changed: network: rewritten accesspoint connection routines. Full network buildup now ~10 seconds faster on reboot
- Changed: network: now shows wifi password for editing when re-connecting to an access point
- Added: network: many additional checks for situations that might happen making the firmware more stable.
