From the official firmware you upgrade to the listenlive loader.
After restarting, the loader will give you the option to upgrade to the fulll 24mb firmware.
So you were doing the right thing, the error should not have happened.
But the official 1.7 firmware does not have an option to upgrade from SD, only from internal memory i thought..
Connect your device to a pc and put the loader on internal memory..

Quote:> Firmware 1.4 has been released. I'm having problems loading your firmware v1.7. I have an Otek IPTV510 which is currently running the firmware it was shipped with (v1.7). I have wifi successfully setup, but I can't access any internet radio stations. I'm guessing the server that v1.7 talks to has gone, so I thought I'd try loading you firmware v1.4.
I've downloaded the "Llfirmware Loader For Otek" and the "Llfirm V1.4 All Models". When I unzip both files, they each contain a file named "update-firmware.bin" ... the loader "update-firmware.bin" is 2.9Meg in size and the firmware one is 24Meg.
I've copied the loader file to an SD card and tried to 'run' it via the menu "Firmware update" but it gives a "File Error" message. Same if I copy the firmware file and try to 'run' it (obviously both these files cannot exist at the same time on the SD card in the root directory, so I've tried them one at a time). Indeed, I was expecting two differently named files which can exist in the same directory. I thought the loader would access the firmware file and update the device.
However, the readme supplied with the loader says the loader itself "is an upgrade to any of the original Otek Webradio and TV firmwares" which leaves me confused ... don't I also need the 24Meg firmware file? I randomly downloaded another loader file (for an Akira as it happens) and that zip file contains a loader file named "KW-1004-colilo.upg". This makes good sense to me in that it has a different name from the firmware file.
I found this advice in another post "on the SD card where you put the 1.4 update_firmware.bin file also put a file with the name "fs_fwrec"." But which of the two update-firmware.bin file is this referring to?
I'm obviously missing something, but don't want to venture out into unknown territory in case I brick my device. Help please.
cheers

Great work on version 1.4 not exactly sure how you activate all the extra options that the ops system has A good idea for next version is to be abel to integrate spotify.com as an add on station...

First of all thanks again for all the great work done here!
I have a funny wifi / favorites issue with v1.4. After a successful update and setting up wifi for the first time, I was able to access and listen to my favs. However now after rebooting the device I get a wifi connected signal and after a few seconds it turns to the red "no wifi" icon. If I then try to access my favs it doesn't let me go to my fav (as expected, as I shouldn't have any wifi). However, when I go to the internet radio function, I can without problem access any internet radio station and listen to it.
Is there a fix to that issue?

I uploaded the file "gadget_drivers.zip" which contains various driver modules for the usb subsystem:
jz4740_udc.ko (the base driver for the usb device interface; should be already there) g_file_storage.ko (the driver which makes the kmp510 show up as an usb stick, also already there) g_ether.ko usb fake network driver which lets the kmp510 show up as a ethernet device (could be statically configured as fallback if the main application does not start up anymore) g_serial.ko (could be configured to have an additional serial console via USB)
Would it be possible to add a submenu to choose one of the desired modules?
(or at least a way to choose a "default" driver for startup which works independantly on the HMI app) This will give us a "back door" in case we locked out of the HMI while experimenting, this is very handy if you don't have a "real" serial console

Could you possibly add another AccuWeather page to show details for the current day? For example, show details for morning, noon, afternoon and night like the website does. Knowing only what the weather is like right now and how it might look like tomorrow does sometimes not suffice...
Furthermore I noticed that some text in 1.4 is not translated to German at all or capitalization is incorrect. Before releasing 1.41, can you please send me the current translation file(s) so I can review them? |
It has the now details on the main page, the forecast shows 7 days including today. So it has current and today.
I do not receive any data indicating afternoon/night etc. I do have some extra data coming in on the forecast, like Rain, UV, windspeed.. and on the "now" I also have visibility, UV, humidity, presure state. I will try to make some changes.
I will send out some text files before the release. Expect them soon.

Is there a screen-saver, current or planned? |
Currently not available. It is planned but at the moment priority goes to clock stuff and player core.

When displaying the weather radar (left arrow from weather screen) it takes an age to display and a subsequent left arrow takes even longer. When trying to exit the radar, either with right arrow or Exit, the device hangs with the centre progress graphic displayed. A cold boot is then the only solution. |
Ok, there are some issues with the radar images. Not sure where they come from at the moment but will look into it.

Any plans for catchup/on demand support as exists on Reciva based radios? |
|Can you explain this? We have podcast, vodcast and various applications under the submenu button. All these do offer some kind of on demand. Or do you mean something else? Sorry for the tardy reply, I have been away. No, I do not mean podcasts. There is a facility on the BBC UK Radio sites to do "Listen Again". This enables you to "catchup" on episodes of a series you may have missed for usually seven days after first "transmision". This is a called "On Demand" This is supported on Reciva based Internet Radios and works very well. It obviously works via the BBC IPlayer on a supported device. There have been issued with the streams/playlists caused by the BBC apparently changing their policy on International streaming without telling anyone! See the following from the Reciva Forum:
« Reply #70 on: March 27, 2012, 04:06:41 AM »
Just wanted to add some extra info here as to whats been going on with the BBC On-Demand. In
laymans terms, for the last few days the BBC have been offering their
UK-Only streams to international listeners, hence international
listeners have been having problems. To go into more depth: Taking yesterdays Archers as an example :- If you are in the UK: Your radio tries to connect to the url: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/again/b01dtlv0.asxThis in turn redirects you to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/asx/b01dtlv0/iplayer_intl_stream_wma_uk_concrete which is a playlist and gives the final url: mms://wm-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/radio4fmcoyopa/radio_4_fm_-_monday_1900.wma This should all work fine. If you are not in the UK: Your radio tries to connect to the same url: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/again/b01dtlv0.asxThis in turn redirects you to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/asx/b01dtlv0/iplayer_intl_stream_wma_lo_concrete (NOTE THE 'UK' PART OF THE URL NEAR THE END HAS CHANGED) which is a playlist and gives the final url: mms://wm-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms2/radio4fmcoyopa/radio_4_fm_-_monday_1900.wma You
will notice that this is exactly the same as the final url in the UK
example above, and here lies the problem. The 'ACL' part of that final
url means that the BBC are filtering it to UK listeners only, yet it's
being offered to everyone. What we've done: We rely on the BBC
to redirect radios to the right stream for the location they are trying
to listen from. As this seems to have stopped working, last night I
made all the On-Demand for BBC Radio 1,2,3,4 use the international
streams (which will work for everyone). I will change all BBC stations to do this later today. The
downside is that international streams are at a lower bitrate and I
believe a few shows will still be unavailable due to licensing issues. We've let our contacts at the BBC know, and will switch the UK streams back once they confirm the issue is solved. Thanks, Matt
« Last Edit: March 27, 2012, 04:14:51 AM by Reciva_Matt »
This may also raise some issues with where you are pointing your servers to get the BBC streams.
Hope this helps

Hello, great job. Very nice firmware, thank you. It's going to be something really good.
I have installed it in my Xoro HMT350 KMP510.0 RM002 and here they are the two most important problems I have found:
1) Conection fails to my network with 128-bit WEP encryption and Open authentication. I turned off my network's encryption and the problem persists. As the last time I used the Xoro firmware was at my parents house, with a different wifi network, I downgraded the firmware to the Xoro one. Under the Xoro firmware I could configure my wifi without problems and finally, after upgrading the firmware to ListenLive 1.4 the wifi is working without need of configuration.
2) When a track or stream is been played and I push the return key the playing is stopped. I don't expect the stream is stopped until I select "pause", "stop", I request to play other stream or track, or I turn off the device. The original Xoro firmware works as I expected so that I think this is a bug. Probably I want to select the clock view, or set the timer, or look for other station, or other different thing but keeping the sound track or the internet station playing.
As a minor issue I can say there are a lot of internet radio stations that can't be played or with problems.
Thak you.
Best regards

Nope. No release date yet. I am taking some time to improve stability. Doing various tests with situations fo a dead link, internet connection or server to make sure there is no crashing. Keep an eye on the first post in the thread to know what is changed/added/fixed. Anyway, it will be available when it is ready. Perhaps next week but if I am not happy about the test results it will take more time.

Well, it does... I think I was confused because the overall sound level is very low, so I thougt it wasn't max. I tried several files, it makes it difficult to listen to them when there is background noise (while cooking, for example). Is it possible to boost the maximum sound level (like VLC does with 0%-200%) ? Or I'll have to reincode the files. Are you using mplayer as videoplayer ? | Yes, we use MPlayer and indeed there is a master setting for volume. Under [settings], [volume and player settings], [mplayer volume preset] can be set. Quote:
Other issue:
- navigation would be helped if there were icons on folders (and possibly on other file types as well, like simply music or videos or unknown).
- when playing a video as a music file (play/pause button), if there is an error, it's impossible to go back. We can call the meteo/twitter/... screens with red button, but to play an other file the machine needs to be rebooted. The only error I remember was "Streaming error", but it happenend in another case as well.
- finally, flv files cannot be played, while the original firmware can (so at least arnova websites says, i didn't try). I'm rencoding all youtube files I wan't to play (wasn't able to get mediatomb transcoding to work, but anyway). Is it possible to add flv codecs?
|
As its MPlayer we can do lots of things. However, there are some limitations. We are not running a modified version that makes use of the dual core hardware. flv does play however, if the resolution is too high calculations are not fast enough to keep up. But there is lots of space for improvements. Too bad each day does not have more than 24 hours
I will see what I can do with the icons. This should not be too much work to implement. The new release has some changes to how the player and main application interact. This should hopefully solve a lot of issues.

Thats correct. I did not program this functionality. There is however the red button that will bring you to the news/weather/clock/stocks based on the number of times you press the red button.. I think the submenu button is better for this as this button is available on all remote control models.

There is no special magic and it did not hack your wifi access It is just because there is a special area in your device where this data is stored. Both the original and mine use the same wifi driver and connected files.. So it re-used your old Wifi settings

Just flashed mine (Arnova, took less than 10mn).
Everything I tested seems to work fine, including UpNP with mediatomb. Could stream easily music and movies.
Two things I noticed: * while in a movie, it seems the remote doesn't change the volume (and the overall was quite low, but that's maybe that specific file (MPEG-4 Visual / AC-3 448Kbps)) * while listening to something, pressing the "home" key doesn't bring to home with the music in the background, as in the original firmware.

I also totally agree to phantasms comments.
Just noticed that the TV-OUT button on rc doesn't seem to work at all, so that I don't have the possibilty to redirect the display to a TV screen when playing a video file. Is there any work-around? Or is this functionality not (yet) implemented in your current version?

Today I noticed that when the last entry on the last page is selected, the > (right arrow) rollover does not work either. On the second last entry, it is fine.
Pressing Play/Pause on the directory itself should in my opinion either do nothing (instead of showing the busy indicator) or play the whole directory content.
I guess a lot of people have their music organized as one directory = one album. Thus I would favor to assign the center button (on both device and remote) to play the selected song and all further ones in the directory. Play/Pause could then be used for single file playback or simply have the same functionality as the center button.
In Media Player mode, both center (device and remote) and Play/Pause button should have the same functionality: pause or continue playback, respectively.
Finally, why not have a "single track playback" mode for the Media Player in addition to the "random playback" mode, like my old discman had? A "repeat" mode per file and per directory would be another new feature. Currently, the "REPEAT" button on the extended remote toggles "RND" (random mode), which is not obvious. By the way: we still have the "SUBMENU" button unassigned in Media Player mode, so this could be used to switch between directory (default), single track and random playback mode. Whether directory or single track playback is the default could be changed in the settings.
Possible combinations would then be: default (play all files starting with the selected one), repeat (repeat all files), single track (only play the selected file), repeat single track, random (play all files in random order) and repeat random (repeat all files in random order).

Hello William,
for me, for sure, same buttons on RC and on device should have absolutly the same behaviour.
And thanks one more time, for all changes made to follow my suggestions and needs on Xoro device.

I have no problem at all with such changes. But lets get things clear and understood so that we are all on the same page about it. I dont want to end up in endless changes.

I support klausis request and have some more wishes regarding the Media Player controls:
- in the directory browser, the > (right arrow) key jumps one "page" at a time. If rollover is enabled in the settings and you are on the last page of the list, it jumps to the first page.
However, the < (left arrow) key jumps back one page, but ignores the rollover setting, i.e. it does not jump from the first page to the last page. Can you please fix this behavior as rollover proves very useful with large lists? |
Ok, tested the rollover, indeed [LEFT] does not work, [UP] does work though so for the time being you can scroll to the end of the list quickly.
Quote:
- selecting a directory and pressing Play/Pause button on the remote causes an infinite loop (busy indicator) until you press exit. How about playing all songs of the directory in order (ignoring sub-directories) instead?
|
Play/Pause works and does play all songs if you are inside a directory. Not when you are on a directory name. Klausis wants to be able to play from a selected entry and not always from the first entry. So playing all songs while in a directory makes sense.
Quote:
- pressing the center button on the device in Media Player mode has the same effect as pressing Play/Pause on the remote (it pauses/continues the current playback). To easily use the directory browser without the remote, I would favor the center button to act like the Play/Pause button in directory browser mode as well, i.e. instead of just playing the selected song, play the whole directory from this song onward (as klausi suggested).
I simply do not want to be forced to use the remote to play a full album/directory...
|
Ok, so the [OK] (center) button playing one song should be changed to play all songs within a directory. Then what do we assign to the [Play/Pause] button? the same function? or just play one song and pause when already playing..? I can imagine people want to play single songs that they pick manually..
Also, do we keep the direction/ok pad the same on both the device and remote or do we make them different? (can be done too) so the OK on top of the device can have a different meaning than the OK on the remote. I fear this will confuse people but I toss it in the group anyway.

you can connect to the units via telnet? If so, we can do some checking there.

anything i could do right now? try the beta version? get the old 1.4 out and try to re-install it? how (fs_fwrec)? anything else? these units (2 of them) are brandnew, so i dont think both have a manufacturers fault - on the other side, i can send them back if they REALLY dont work.
greetings - heinz -
PS: have actually twice now tried resetting (w fs_fwrec), result the same. and it is, for sure, something purely internal, because NO file play, not podcasts, no shoutcast, and EVEN NO LOCAL MP3 FILE form the SD card. the MEDIA PLAYER simply does not exist.
also, it for sure is not a mechanical/technical/electronics fault, because it WAS working with the original FW.

The application passes the stream URL to MPlayer. (the audio/video player) MPlayer then tries to connect to this stream URL and when that fails, I report it as not being able to connect to "the server".
I know that there were some issues with internal memory. This should not be the case with the 1.4 version though. I have it running fine on the Xenta, old and new Envivo's. These three represent the three main PCB's that are used in the devices.
If there is an issue we should be able to locate and fix it.. I will come with some debugging stuff in the next release, a new loader as well and a way to reinstall the recovery mode

tried my hands today first time on a disgo TVGO (KPM510.2 TVGO001R).
is there anything so different on this version that i dont understand?
setting up with LOADER and then with FW1.4 worked fine, all looks normal.
using same router on which ARNOVA, PEARL and XORO work, so i am pretty sure about my settings and so on. WLAN network shows up in full strenght, too.
then: any TV station out of my FAVs only blinks into a split-second ''CONNECTING'', the jumps back to the list. any RADIO station even more destinct, comes up with the black (DOS-like) box saying sorry, ... NO CONNECTION TO SERVER ...
so which server? the WLAN is strong, the server at yours loaded the FAV stations, and the other 3 machines work fine!
any suggestion, any idea?

No, I mean just selecting/marking a specific title of your choice and start playing from that one to the end, not always and only start from title number one.
Example: you have 100 titles in one directory and want to play titles 50 to 100.

While playing, you can press the repeat button to activate the shuffle mode. This will randomize the playing order. Is this what you mean or do you want something else?

Hi William,
thanks for your effort doing such a great job writing this modified firmware. My Xoro HMT 350 (KMP510.0 RM002) with its original firmware (V1.8.9) was almost useless, hanging very often, minimal Volume too loud, and display too bright during the night ... Installation of modified firmware 1.4 worked like a charm after modifying parameter hardware_version in file update-script. Before I got a HW version error message.
After doing a lot of tests on your fw there's one wish from my side regarding the media player to which I couldn't find any comment in the whole thread. Currently it is not possible playing titles continuously from a directory starting on a selected/marked file. Instead of that, pressing the pause button on rc always starts playing from first file even if you only want to pause playing for a while.
I would be happy if you could add this feature to your next release, thanks in advance.

Hi,
me again with a feature request.
would it be possible to add a function the gives the possibility to add youtube videos to your favortites?
Perhaps this can be implemented by simply adding
youtube urls as a category on the website under the existing vodcast section. In this manner I imagine it would not require an update of the firmware since we are already able to play YouTube through the best of YouTube function. It would only require that the favourites contain the right kind URL and stream information, right?
cheers,
A.

Hello Erik,
It has nothing to do with the day change, it is using the linux timestamp value for calculations. Nothing wrong there. Of course there were some other problems. Like the various alarm routines were incorrectly mixing a variable. Also the clock did not properly reactive itself after getting activated the first day. So the second day in most cases did not work at all. Furthermore there was a problem with the (internal) routine that activated the alarm, like when it needed to activate alarm1 it then waited for alarm2 to get triggered. So the alarm was actually set and working at a device level.. but the routine that checked it was not looking for the right alarm. Anyway, fixing things now.. first post keeps track of the changes in the upcoming version.

Hello,
So well received the french language file. I've got transalated new strings and corrected old ones in some cases. I've also do some remarks about strings not found, not correctly used, and so long... File resend to you.
A new test IRL of the alarm1: monday at about 15:00 i've program alarm1 for "default sound", "1 time", @ "07.29", alarm1 set to ON. This thusday morning no alarm has fired (device was displaying the clock in night mode). May be a problem with a new day ? (alarm programmed on monday for firing on thusday)
I don't have done anything in the alarm1 programming today (no change, not even consult the settings). The device is stayed on the clock screen in night mode during all this day. So we will see what happend tomorrow morning: will the alarm1 fire or not ?
Note that as someone else said, all tests using Alarm2 don't work at all.
I've scanned my xoro RC and send the jpg to you ; so you'll have all the buttons visible with their names.
Many thanks for your effort to follow my suggestions.

@SaliesBuzz The same here, using since weeks Arnova RM003 and enjoying the new 1.4 Firmware. Weather radar works little slow is true, but does not get hung on my unit. I can go back with exit. William, please look into the alarm function. As already reported by others; the last station play does not work, both the alarms randomly work or don't work. Yesterday only alarm1 sounded and today both alarms didn't sound. I use my Arnova (or I should rather say; I would like to use my Arnova) primarily as an alarm clock. So if the alarm function does not work, the device is rather useless for me. Thanks for all your work, really appreciate it.

Exactly like me!
I trashed my old Alarm clock for this device and came late at work due to alarm mostly not working (sound / Radio or local file)
I thought this nice firmware would save me but unfortunately no...... Hope to see the alarm working one day

Hello,
I've done as you said here with my Xoro.
So OK Alarm1 works this way but when it fires up what is the way to stop the alarm ?
I've made 2 tests, one exactly according your method waiting in clock
screen and a second one just waiting somewhere in the main screen
doing nothing.
The first time, i've press the "ENTER" button on the remote and the alarm continue to play.
Then in the 2 cases, i've tried the "stop" button on the remote and at
this moment i've got the sleeptimer message firing up and impossible to
get it ride unless power off the device.
Third test programming alarm1 and power off the device... the device
wake itself up and the alarm sound is played... on a totaly black
screen... after a while since i've activated the "auto play when turned
on" in the settings, the radio starts and the alarm sound is never
replayed at all and the device is blocked again not responding to remote
or with incoherent action.
Once again the only way found was to power off the device.
I've also tried sleeptimer which dosen't work at all.
A remark concerning the "auto play when turned on",
when it's ON it starts the radio screen has soon as the network is
connected even it i'm in the settings menu. The original 1.89/1.89p
firmware block this option as long as you are in the settings menu, it
would be nice the new firmware do the same i think.
A remark concerning the ability (when it will work) to choose the last
played radio on alarm programming: I don't think it as a good idea since
I, and i think i'm not the only one, like to listen music radio station
with sleeptimer but i want to be wake up with a news radio station
(not the same radio station).
So for me, the way used by the 1.89/1.89p firmware is better : a choice of a specified radio station in the favorite list.
I've seen you think replace the "CLOCK" button not present on Xoro
remote by adding the "go to clock screen" function to the "EQ" button
when in the radio screen.
Why not use the "home" button on the remote when in radio screen to go
the clock screen since it seems not be used at all for the moment ?
New tests done...
When i go programming the alarm andi activate the alarm, 2 times on 3, the device stay blocked on the "Alarm 1 activated - Press a key" screen. At this stage, the only way to quit is a long press on the power button on the device (not on the RC). After rebooting, the alarm is allways not activated.
A question: where can i program alarm volume ? at the moment, the volume is largely to high (
More tests...
So i think i've found the button to use to stop the alarm: the "RETURN" button ! I'm right ?
But i've done new tests with the alarm programmed on "run everyday" mode (before i was on "1 shot" mode) and then after i hit the "RETURN" button, the device stay frized. A long press on the device power button is needed to halt the device and reboot it. Testing 2 times and 2 times frized. Back to the "1 shot" mode and no problem. Starting a new test with the "Saturday-Sunday" mode... frized again... second try in this mode... allready frized... Back to the "1 shot" mode and no problem.
I've seen the need to translate new strings in french... could you send me a reference file with the partial french translations and the new strings in english or if you prefer i download the english file and translate it like the first time ?
Keep the way and thanks for your job.
Regards
eric (leviking)

I know you are working on the alarm but i am unclear as to how it is supposed to work as it never has for me. I expected that you could set alarm and then leave the unit on the clock overnight and the alarm would wake you in the morning - is this not right? |
Ok, testing it as I type.. - Go to Alarm1, set alarm tone (radio does not work, so choose one of the preinstalled sounds) I picked the birds.. - Go to the time settings, set 19.06 - Turn alarm 1 on.. Go to clock mode and wait for 19.06 (you will see Alarm 1 icon is highlited when it is active..)
exactly 19.06 the clock stops (I know.. it should continue.. but thats was caused by the routine that waits for your button press..) and the birds start to sing.. Ok.. the basics of the alarm clock seem to work here.
You do not need to go to the clock screen. You can also turn off the device. It will wake up buy itself and start the alarm sound..

ah, so i at least thought right - for once. whatever stock symbol i put in, i get a NOT FOUND back, even really major ones like SIEMENS or VW. take your time fixing it - my stocks are going down anyhow.
meantime, can anybody out there in the real world ever explain what that 'Buienradar' is supposed to mean? or what it has to do on such a small device with a tiny screen? whenever i select it, it loads forever, then shows a picasso-like colourful screen, all in patches and bits and pieces, and then (everytime !) freezes the unit, totally. have to unplug to re-start. seriously, no fun - not sure why i keep trying it - just to find out?
so what is this, and early april 1st joke?

It was the intention that you could also still punch in your favorite stock symbol and get this shown. Most of it still works as it should. But I do not get the image display at the moment. So there clearly is a bug. Will fix it.

william, when you write ...
'' ... stock market now shows major stock market data (DJ/NYSE,SMI,AEX,CAC,DAX and more) ... ''
... does that mean it ONLY shows those data, and you cannot input your own symbols? and store them? even though the note (PRESS OK ... ) suggests so?

UPnP tested with a router + drive connected to it: - No action taken up front, USB drive inserted in a router (Linksys WAG320N). the result is: It does not show up. - Then in the Router configuration menu, storage, mediaserver, enable the routers mediaserver service select UPnP on LL1.4 firmware it shows an entry "MyWAG320N_Media" which can be browsed without problems.
The above is indeed how things should work with UPnP/DLNA. The device has to announce itself as a "mediaserver" to the network. If it does not do this it will not be listed and you can not browse it.
It might be possible to add support for Router devices that do not have a mediaserver service included. If you have a router and a drive connected to it that does not get detected then please list some details, like router brand and model. That way I can dig for some information and try to solve it.

>>> You mean it saw the devices or it saw content on the devices? >>>
For me the windows media player is a very strange "black box", but I need it for a working uPnP connection. After using the media library I find a copy of my mp3 files (path "CDs") on my XP PC under "Gemeinsame Dokumente" -> "Gemeinsame Musik" -> "CDs" -> CDs with title1.mp3 etc.
The (only and same) way uPnP works on my (original firmware) Arnova, Xoro and Albrecht/Lookee: After clicking on "uPnP" it shows an entry with the name of my XP PC (Home-xxx: user: ), then the following entries are:
"Home-xxx: user:" -> "Musik" -> "Ordner" -> "Dokumente und Einstellungen" -> "All users" -> "Dokumente" -> "Eigene Musik" -> "CDs" -> CDs/Titel
The Envivo with Vs. 1.4 works different from the other devices and different from time to time: If the device is switched on before the media player was started it shows nothing.
If switched on after the media player was started one time it showed the first entry "Home-xxx: user:" as the other devices. But after clicking on it the entry disapeared.
The best result so far was shown only once: After the entry "Home-xxx: user:" and clicking on it "Musik" was shown as next entry as on the other devices. But after clicking on "Musik" the Envivo froze completely and it was no longer possible to use the remote control. The only way to switch it off was the "off" button of the device, that still worked.
I have no idea at all what the reason for these strange behaviours might be and whether it´s possible to fix it. Maybe you have an idea, William, Thanks a lot. (Last Edited by explmag on March 14, 2012, 9:33 pm)

Hi, right now all UPnP devices are seen internally by the UPnP routine. However, I only list the media player devices. This was a choice when I wrote the code. On my network there are 3 routers and a UPnP printer. Since there would never be anything useful to play from these I just trash these devices. For the printer I am pretty sure this is true. For the routers I forgot that some of them have USB ports. One of mine has and I will check if I can get this working. For the PC I only tested a windows XP machine with twonky.. this worked.. I will test Win7.
>EDIT: I checked it again a few minutes ago and there were ENTRIES now for the first time!!! (I don´t know at all what the difference was to all the trials before!). You mean it saw the devices or it saw content on the devices?
Anyway, the idea is to fix the UPnP issues as soon as possible. However, some UPnP devices are a real pain in the ass. Other projects (like UPnP support on the XBox) struggle with the same issues. The killer bug is present on all official firmwares. This includes thre Albrecht and Lookee models. This was the reason why I have removed the patched versions. My code has no relation to the official code. The similarity to the menu of the Albrecht is because I ripped their icons and liked the menu style more than the firmware that was on the Envivo.
If you have any ideas about improvents or graphics that are better feel welcome to contribute. Also if people have a nice background image for the mediaplayer they are more than welcome..

[quote]On hold/Planned for a future update: Level 1: (Most important) UPnP: add router and PC devices[/quote]
Does this mean that it is possible to play "win xp win mediaplayer mp3 titles" via uPnP after this update or is there another reason that it doesn´t work on my device at the moment with 1.4?
And the "killer bug": Is it on the Albrecht DR 800 as well?

Hello William,
great work and I think that you have spend many time to develop this new firmware. I had put it on my Xoro HMT 350 but went back to the original FW.
The reasons are:
For me the handling of the favorites is not acceptable. It was not possible to select and save my account in the setup and so I had to scroll through big list of all listenlive users everytime until I could use my favorites on the Xoro. The remote key for this function is also not operable. Since your server seems to have a very big load it is very slow from here (not my connection - VDSL). So it is very annoying to edit the favorites on the website. I am also missing some filters as genre and a preselection of initials.
I do not know why the original favorite management of the HMT has gone - but this is now a knockout criteria for me.
I also stated that most of the stations - internet radio or tv were not reacheable through listenlive - so I went back to the ugly, but for me more usable original FW. |
I think it would be better to fix your issues than to go back to the original firmware. Main reason is the killer bug that corrupts flash memory in the original firmwares. I have a new faster server mirroring the current one.. if all goes well it will kick in soon. That should solve the load issues.
I explained the favorites handling before, if you just do it on the device, favorites die after a while due to changing url's. The current solution keeps them up to date. Also the favorites survive firmware updates and can be used on multiple devices. You are the only one who has an issue with not holding your account. You know you have to set your MyFavorites account only once under the settings menu, right? This is then stored i nthe config file where also your other settings are stored. You can even verify this setting via a telnet connection.. Anyway, what I am thinking of is a feedback option so that the FAV button would report your favorite to the server and add it to the list. I need to do some tests to see how well that would work.
If your favorite stations are not working, then you can update them yourself if you like. It is more likely that you tried an entry that does not play well on your device but is there for the Penbex or Audiotron brands, these have different requirements but have to be kept playing as well.. of course we try to get streams to run on all. As for the original database.. I have a backup of that and everything in there is also in our database here..

I tried them all on the website and there they work but on my ENV 1171 it just gives me connecting, then starts switching between servers and then after a while it gives an error or I immediately get the message station not available.
Perhaps there is some error in how the streams get handled as most of these stations work on the website?
I also tried adding my favourite Russian rap station from 101.ru. I know they are difficult about streaming of site, but I added a direct stream link (copied from windows media player) http://217.199.213.168/c1_3_128?st=&t=21111963 of the station to my personal favourites and on the website it works, The WMA stream gets opened directly in either VLC, winamp or windows mediaplayer so it is possible that play the (101.ru) stations out side of the browser. However, on the device I only get their annoying radio promo.
This got my thinking and I was wondering how does their server know it's not windows media player getting the stream?
Perhaps it is possible to modify how the player presents itself to the media server and somehow "spoof" being windows mediaplayer when requesting to open a media stream..? This might resolve the issue. Just a thought.
cheers.

The first time the device just hung on a black screen, the second time the clock froze exactly one second before the alarm time... Would be great if this could be fixed soon, as I also want to use my Xoro primarily as an alarm clock
Another thing: Is there a possibility to dim the screen even further in night mode? I tried it with the nightstand function yesterday and to me it is even too bright on the lowest setting. But I don´t know if more steps are possible.
Thanks

I am already working on the clock. For the brightness.. you can at any time use the pageup/down buttons to change the brightness. You can also set the day time and night time brightness under display settings. Higher than the maximum and lower than the minimum displayer there is, as far as I know, impossible.

As there was no reaction so far concerning my uPnP problem, once again the question:
Is there any idea why my original Arnova, Xoro and Albrecht DR800 (Lookee - looking very similar to Vs. 1.4! ) can communicate with my Win XP PC and its Windows media player without a problem via uPnP - but only my Envivo (thanks William for this device!) with Vs. 1.4 doesn´t show a single entry at all under uPnP?
EDIT: I checked it again a few minutes ago and there were ENTRIES now for the first time!!! (I don´t know at all what the difference was to all the trials before!).
As on the other devices I suddenly find my uPnP media player and it offers Musik, Video, Bilder and Wiedergabelisten as the other devices do but after clicking on "Musik" the Envivo with Vs. 1.4 freezes completely - no possibility to use the remote control any longer.
The only way to switch it off is to use the "off" button of the device - that still works! (Last Edited by explmag on March 10, 2012, 11:47 pm)

Hi William,
sleeptimer doesn't work on my Xoro. I've noticed that you've already fixed something around sleeptimer, suppose that it is the same bug.
Since 1.4 it's not possible to access my locally generated podcasts. I think that it's related to URL checking you've introduced. Podcast XML is read fine, but accessing mp3 gives error message "stram not available". I've made wireshark trace and found out, that you check URL validity using HEAD method. Problem seems to be that my busybox httpd (v1.13.4 and perhaps other) seems to send more data, which is causing problem to your URL checker. It is possible to adapt the URL checker somehow? I can send you wireshark trace if needed.
Thanks for your work, Tomas

Hi, favorites are managed via this website. Search and select any station you like and add it you your favorites. On top of the page, go to the "user settings" tab and select Edit device details then make sure you have "Yes" after the question "Do you own a radio build by SkyTC (Envivo, Arnova, HMT350 etc.)?" Once you have done that, on your Envivo go to [settings], [MyFavorites user account] and look for your user name. That will make the link between the server and the Envivo.
Yes, there is a small disadvantage that you can not use the FAV button to add stations directly. But there is also an advantage that stations that change on the server are automatically modified in your lists as well. Also you can link multiple devices to one account.
Quote:
also the page up and down buttons are not working. The only thing that happens when I press them is that pressing page down darkens the screen a little bit. |
Page up/down are used to control the screen brightness. If you look for something to be able to do faster scrolling through the lists, then use left/right to advance pages. Also you can activate list rotation to go to the last entry when you are on the first.. furthermore the home button takes you to the first entry of the lists.

First of congratulations on building this truly fantastic alternative firmware! I upgraded my aldi ENV 1171 today and your firmware woks really nice on it.
However I have some questions:
none of the Italian webradio stations that I try (I have tried about a dozen) work. I get server connection failed each time?? while this morning with the original firmware they all worked...
Also I can't add favorites station tv or radio to my favorits list. I go to a station and press the favorite button on the remote and nothing happens... I already did the remote configuration thing by pressing mute and it selected the extend remote. Am I not getting it? Or is there something wrong with the remote?
also the page up and down buttons are not working. The only thing that happens when I press them is that pressing page down darkens the screen a little bit. (solved) I found that the arrow key perform this function now.
A further question relates to playing media from the SDcard (mp3's) is it possible to make playlists or to shuffle between mp3's or to ad an mp3 playlist to the favourites??
nonetheless great work.

Hello, as you might understand I have been pretty busy with the last firmware release and spend less time on correcting the database. Main idea behind our setup is that users can add and fix entries themselves. So that you don't have to rely on others. Hi,
on my Arnova the Play-Button on Directorry names show endless busy-circle. You can go back with exit, but i am not in a position to play more than one single song. What is wrong?
Update: Using Play-Button on first song in directory plays all songs in directory (according to a hint of a fellow in this forum - tks) from flash drive and sd-card; fws and back work. Strange behaviour on upnp - as reported before - still persisting.
So error upon play on directory remains to be fixed, desired functionality is there (me happy)

Check what is displayed under "network status" ? Here it should list your access point ssid, mac and encryption type. Did you try to remove the accesspoint list under "manage access point list" ?

Hi William - great work on the 1.4 - so many new features, it's great! a few issues I still have: - Samba shares are still blank
(using Ubuntu 11.10, Samba version 2:3.5.11 as the host) - I can see the shares on all other machines attached to the network (Win, Linux & Android). Please let me know if there's any more diagnostic info you need - this is the big issue for me!
- Mediaplayer - cannot play a directory of .ogg (tries to play each in turn, but error, then exit flashes up for every track).
- Mediaplayer - MP3 tracks in a directory are shown in random order - can they be sorted alphabetically?). ogg seems to be in the correct order.
- Mediaplayer - tags are not displayed (showing "n/a") - Album/Track not showing on mp3, no tags at all displayed from ogg. all my mp3s are tagged with ID3v2.4.
- Top "power" button doesn't turn the machine off whilst playing.

Probably only by opening up the device. But with what I have seen during the last few days it is better to claim warranty because in most cases it is related to the killerbug. The killerbug is within the official firmware and it creates bad blocks within the flash memory..

Hello, I updated my Arnova from a working LL1.3a to 1.4 via Internal Flash. Model: KMP51x
Type: 1 - JZ4755 - SD
Board Ver: Kmp811 VO.1
It
seemed to work, I got the message the update was successful and will reboot. The reboot stopped after Arnova appeared, disappered for 1 second and appeared again. Nothing more. I tried the thing with fs_fwrec and update-firmware.bin on SD, but it did not change anything. Is ther any other possibility to solve the problem? Thanks Tom (Last Edited by TomTom on March 8, 2012, 7:25 am) (Last Edited by TomTom on March 8, 2012, 7:26 am)

The Wifi part is controlled by standard Atheros wifi drivers. There has not been any change or update on them. So that can not be the issue. There have been some changes to the way the wifi is connecting (mainly minor cleanups) but no major changes between 1.3a and 1.4. The system freezing would suggest that the software crashes. I do not see why this would happen unless there is some strange setting that goes bad.
But.. there is one thing new.. not related to the Wifi but it is related to having a connection or not.. Thats the UPnP.. Since a working network connection will trigger UPnP to get active. Indeed this takes a bit of time like Loek writes. So that could make sense.
Loek/Martin, can you tell me if you have UPnP devices on your network and what kind..? Perhaps use "Windows UPnP Browser". http://code.google.com/p/wupnpbrowser/downloads/list First let it detect all devices. Then click on each device and note the "Device Type" (this should look like: "urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:MediaServer:1" ) and send that here or via email. If this is the problem then we should get a quick fix that allows deactivation of UPnP.

The alarm clock randomly won't work (can't trick out a rule - same as in 1.3a) The last played radio station option as wakeupsound never worked here, although it's functioning in the 'myfavourites' folder.
Otherwise faster then the previous firmware.

Hi,
didnt read everything in this post. So far tested Network op. First thank you William - nice Job.
I mainly second Hans.
- upnp does not detect twonky, wehther on a linux engine nor in a router from avm (fritz box) but accepts tversity mediaserver on win xp. plays videos and music - great. some songs are displayed but not played. I suspect german diphtongs (ä ...) to be responsible. They are in the first folder hierarrchy. subfolders and mp3s are displayed, playing fails. in other trees without diphtongs the songs are played. Think it is known, but please upgrade priority
- samba: Only one pc is detected, the other nas seen in fw 1.3 do not show up. I am asked for login credentials and all shares on this server are displayed. choosing one results in empty list. going back one step does not show the shares but the server again and i have to log in again. credentials have not been stored. so far samba useless for me. Maybe similar diphtong prob or spaces in names?.
- some strange behaviour of hardware buttons: pressing the back button in any submenu often (>70 % but not reliable to reproduce) shows a so far unknown subfolder with icons representing newsstreams or markets ... very strange
- webtv: german n-tv now plays fine, some other do not. not fully tested yet.
- selecting a radio station with bright display. then switching to night stand while radio plays. now going back to main menu leaves display dimmed ... and me helpless unless using the display of my mobile to find the up button on rc. feature? quit laughing pls.
And perhaps you can give me a hand: playing songs via upnp stops after every song. pressing play on remote with relevant folder selected plays one randomly choosen song from folder. What am I doing wrong? Bug? Hopefully no feature
Testing more 2n8. Cheers ... OTP
Some more findings:
- Alarm does not Work on my Arnova fw 1.4 ( sound last played station) - Sleeptimer does not work on my Arnova fw 1.4 - Digging in the menues often shows a red wifi indicator suggesting unit not connected. Nevertheless internet radio plays fine "without" wifi. - samba server works fine including sd-card. So far only mp3 tested (remember me reporting a disconnect with videofiles) - samba client/upnp: abandoned a dot from nas name brings share to display, but still showing empty list ... i am absolutely not in a position to rename 80.000 + mediafiles

Some first glance feed-back : ++ Network play of video now possible! ++ FF/FR in mplayer working for audio and video! ++ Confrmed to play mp3, mp4, ogg, flac, wma, acc audio-files just fine! ++ Confirmed to play DivX, Xvid, wmv h264, avi, mpg, and even mkv container just fine !! + Play/Pause on unit and RC working now! |
Hi.. So far it sounds good..

Works here with TwonkyMedia on a QNAP NAS. No idea if there are different versions that need different handling. I did have a different behaviour on a ReadyNAS and on a Zyxel NAS. So it would not amaze me if the UPNP is having some issues. The used library is the standard Intel UPNP so the base should be solid.

From the weather "Now" screen left once should give you the radar image for Europe. This takes a little bit of time to load as it grabs like 10 high res. images or so. once you see the Europe screen with the clouds moving, pressing left once mor will result in another loading session where it loads and then shows the Dutch radar images.

Hello, as you might understand I have been pretty busy with the last firmware release and spend less time on correcting the database. Main idea behind our setup is that users can add and fix entries themselves. So that you don't have to rely on others. First: Thank you very much for your effort. A simple, basic thing: A lot of radio stations do not play on the device although the Stream URL in the database works fine. Example: 90elf -DAS Fussballradio The Device (Arnova KMP511 with your firmware 1.4) says: "Server connection failed, try again later." Some other stations do work. When I asked SkyTC's CEO friendly for the sources he kicked my .. and does not want to talk anymore. He does not believe in open source also did not want to hear suggestions and did not want help with the firmware. Also he does not allow firmware updates for existing devices.. unless there is something really bad or the customer complains AND a new deal is about to happen.. thats why 1.9.4 was released.
In short the reason why I created the ListenLive firmware version.. (Last Edited by penbex on March 6, 2012, 5:05 pm) | Ok. I understand, the original producer is not respecting the rules set out in the GPL software he is using. This project, the 1.9.4 is also based on lots of work by others (I guess lots of it GPL licensed).
I would like to take a look at the original sources and adapt them (and respect GPL, publishing my modifications/patches) for my own project.
Currently I have not decided on the hardware, mainly because everything is closed source software.
If I choose a hardware/software platform I need to be able to support it. This rules out most devices. My application would be semi-closed group (religious) radio streams.
(take a look at kerkdienstgemist.nl, this is from a friend, I would use his server to integrate into)
With the display in the device we could show biblical texts and images during live audio stream.
So the real question is, are the sources available?
Thanks for your effort already,
Edwin | Hi Edwin, I am aware of the project. I will send you a PM.

...would be to simply continue playing the next file until the end of the directory/album is reached. If I remember correctly, that is the way the original firmware is working: you play the first song and it continues till the end of the list. I guess this could be a quick fix until we know why the Play/Pause button does not work on directories/albums in my constellation... |
Tested again on both my UPnP devices (Zyxel nas / Qnap with twonky): Most of my MP3's are stored as one directory per album. When I browse to a folder (album) I see all tracks. I press [OK] and it plays the selected song. When I press [Play/Pause] it plays the first song of the list and when it is done it plays the next song etc. until all files in the folder are played. During a song pressing the [left] or [right] buttons advance to the next or previous song. During a song pressing the [<<] or [>>] (rewind/forward) buttons skips 15 seconds in the chosen direction. Keeping the [>>] button pressed gets me to the next track..
Pressing the [Repeat] button during playback enables/disables the shuffle mode.. Then the tracks are played in a random order. in that case there is no difference between the [left]/[right] buttons both go to the 'next' random track number.
So that works in the way I meant and expected it to work (code wise).
Remember that to use the some of the buttons you need to select the correct remote control in the settings screen. The simple/standard remote (comes with Xoro devices) does not have the rewind/forward buttons.. So, for now, both standard and compatible remote settings do not have these buttons mapped. You need the extended remote to use rewind/forward.
|
Now I got it! In another thread you told me to press Play to play a full album/directory. So I selected a directory and pressed Play - and the idle indicator freezes... What I did not try is to press Play on the first file in the directory - that works like a charm! So besides some usability questions, everything is fine and I do no longer regret not to have backed up the original firmware. And my wife will no longer curse me for playing around with the device... It is just sad that you cannot trigger full album playback without the remote: With the original fw, OK (center button) started full album/directory playback as there was no explicit single file playback. Not strange at all. UPNP devices announce themselves within a network. Devices belong to a device group. I choose to support the mediaserver devices. Since those are the main ones we are interested in. In general a router announces itself as an InternetGatewayDevice. I did not add support for that. Maybe stupid from my side, but I forgot about USB sharing via routers and now that you mention it I remember that my router has a USB port as well.. (not that I ever use it though) Besides Internetgateway device there are other device types as well which routers seem to use.. Also, I think the router will show up always if I allow it to even when there is no USB stick inserted. On the other hand, the router probably should have followed the rules and also announced itself for its media serving feature. I will look into it, do some tests and try to add it.

Congratultations, William, great new version, which worked from the very beginning after installing!
[quote]It would be great if we can get some feedback from people that tried UPnP.
What I need is: a) model/brand of the browsed UPnP device b) if it worked c) if it did not work: - it did not list the device at all ..or.. - it did list the device but there were no contents (did it work with the original firmware?), (did you make media available at the server side?)[/quote]
uPnP seems to be the only thing that doesn´t work. I use Win XP with the Windows Media Player. After opening the media library (only mp3-songs in MyMusic) it works fine with the original Arnova, Xoro and Albrecht 800. There it is possible to go down to folders.
Vs. 1.4 doesn´t show an entry at all. I tried it with the Envivo switched on before and after the PC with its Media Player. It makes no difference.
Another question: Wasn´t it planned to make the clock usable as a screen saver while playing a radio station? Maybe I remember something wrong.
And a last question: I have two entries in the radio station favourites (don´t know how I managed that) which I cannot delete. They are shown in a strange way in the radios favourite list as well (/itemName) and - of course - cannot be played. Is it possible to delete these entries somehow?
Xanx again for the great work with Vs. 1.4!

Ok. I understand, the original producer is not respecting the rules set out in the GPL software he is using. This project, is also based on lots of work by others (I guess lots of it GPL licensed). (take a look at kerkdienstgemist.nl, this is from a friend, I would use his server to integrate into) With the display in the device we could show biblical texts and images during live audio stream. So the real question is, are the sources available? Thanks for your effort already, Edwin (Last Edited by oetelaar on March 6, 2012, 7:55 pm)

Hello folks, I am a technical person from the Netherlands with experience in streaming technology/mp3 and open source projects. I am looking for the project sources for the SkyTC device, not just a binary blob that someone else is creating. I guess most of the stuff in the project is based on GPL so not publishing is not an option as I see it. Posting the project on sourceforge/github would be the best way in my opinion. Thanks for your work already, Edwin

In the continuing story of FW1.4 feedback, some more remarks and/or suggestions :
-
Save ‘Last
mode’ and Volume instead of just last (inter)net Radio/TV playback, so the unit kicks of where left behind.
- When the unit was switched of trying to play a non-working internet station, it should not be saved as last station (as it does now) !!! -
There is currently no possibility
of changing FM volume on the unit itself (up/down now used for scanning). I would suggest to assign up/down keys on the unit consistantly to Volume up/down, and re-assign scanning to for example long-press left/right on the unit. That would also facilitate scanning in Preset mode.....
- The setting screens only
work with RC; I would suggest for settings to enable left/right up/down on the unit aswell
-
Unpn ‘sometimes’
correctly identies (my) Mediatomb server (after 1 or more retries) and then correctly shows menu contents
-
Upnp then
(see above) plays audio files fine, but video files don't play (it tries to cache, fails and then returns to menu)
- I would suggest to enable (extended) RC direct shortcut keys to Home menu, Internet Radio, Internet TV, FM, and Settings(!!) Especially settings would be extremely conveniant, in order to quickly change network/volume/screen/clock/alarm settings, and then return.
- Recording works great! I would suggest to save a stream to a distinct (station identifyable?) sub-directory iso all in root, or include stream name to the filename. Artist/title naming (like streamripper does) would then be reduced to a nice future bonus....

If you start the device with an SDcard that holds a file with the name fs_fwrec and the device does not show the loader then it is very likely that there is some other problem that prevents the kernel or the file system from getting loaded.. Fixing it is, unless there is a hardware failure, still possible. Mail me for details Do you have warranty on the device that you want to claim? ~William

Hello , I tried to update from (the working) LL1.3a to 1.4 with sd-Card. It seemed to work, but I get online the blue auvio-sign and nothing more. Anybody an idea? |
On the SD card, put the update_firmware.bin for the 1.4 firmware. besides that file, also put a file with the name "fs_fwrec" (contents of this file are not important.. it just needs to be there to trigger the failsafe mechanism) Insert the SD card into the device and power on.. If all is well, you should get a text screen.. press OK here and it will update to the 1.4 firmware.

yes, only the XORO had it really visible. both my ARNOVA and PEARL had as good as nothing, with any FW, any setting of brightness.

XORO screen flicker update:
william, yes, the normal brightness in SETTINGS was a tiny bit under MAXIMUM. resetting this to half, rebooting, and then setting it to MAX helped a lot: the flicker is 99% gone. somehow a setting less than max does not seem to syncronize the monitor too well.
going to about half makes too dark a picture, but no flicker, anything between half and MAX has the flicker.
strange ...

Hi William,
Thanks for your feedback! I have another small improvement to add: can you assign previous/next song to the < (left arrow) and > (right arrow) buttons on device and RC in Media Player? So far they have no function. Together with my suggestion to continue playing (which could be activated in the settings) at the end of a song this would allow a CD-player like behavior when playing full albums. | That should be there already..

Hello,
Hum... sorry i realize that when you said "soft wake up", you thought "smooth wake up" as i thought "software (vs hardware) wake up".
This was because I was thinking that "software wake up" (and so power on device) was allready broken (was bad working on xoro 1.89 from time to time but quit never - and not tested on 1.xx not working well for me).
Thus why power off the device after silence ? why don't stay with clock displayed ? (like on a vanilla alarm/clock device)
I've buyed my xoro to replace my vanilla alarm/clock device (just alarm (FM radio) and clock and sleeptimer functions) and my needs are: - a clock as a basis display - a way to choose and hear a radio (and then go back to clock display) - entering sleeptimer mode (and then go back to clock display) - have an alarm programmed which will run a radio at the desired time (and then go back to clock display).
So after sleeptimer has shut the (radio) sound, i'd like to allways have the clock displayed, so if i wake up in the middle of the night i can see the time... all like a vanilla alarm/clock.
Would this way be possible ?
Regards eric (leviking)
Quote:Quote:
An alternate possibility to the "soft wake up mode" should be a "soft sleeptimer mode": just stop reading radio(, tv, podcast, file, ...) being played when time to sleep is coming (stop the program making sound at this time but do not stop the device itself so the alarm could run when his time will come later).
Regards and thanks again for your work.
eric (leviking) |
The sleeptimer is already soft. When you set it to x time it will play and in the last few minutes it will lower the volume until it is silent Then it powers off the device
If you also have set an alarm, the device will sleep for a while.. and power on when the alarm time is reached and then start playing the selected alarm sound. This could be one of the 10 preinstalled sounds (normal alarm sound, siren, jungle sound and even one sound -that is really loud- to wake the dead ) but it can also be set to play the last played sound.. which could be an MP3 file from the SD card but also could be an Internet Radio station.
The sleep timer and alarm were already working in 1.3a. the sound selection is new.

...would be to simply continue playing the next file until the end of the directory/album is reached. |
You need the extended remote to use rewind/forward.

re screen flicker XORO: tks william, yes that is one of the screens where it is most obvious, ALL the grey fields. and unfortunately on all TV stations too. playing a clip from SD, too.
playing radio stations has a darker, almost black background, and is rock-solid.

The sleep timer is something very important! This I really need much. To project the clock on Mplayer, ..well when you find a time. This would be nice, since there are so many shows on tv, where you just need to listen. (Actually I like this kind!). If I would know any possibility just to find how to play only the audio stream this I would use. (Like for the desired hungarian HirTv too, but I don't know a solution to do so!)

The time is remaining set after rebooting! - I can switch now the display to show the clock (analog/digital) while listening to the radio , but can not switch the display to clock by watching tv. (I like to listen to tv-discussion!)
-The system is much more stable and faster since using the new 1.4 firmware! |
I will re-check the sleep timer.
I did not thing of going to clock while while watching tv.. sounds a bit strange Another solution would be to take an audio only stream from a TV channel if available. Not sure if I can get the clock projected on top of MPlayer that writes the video output directly to the framebuffer.

- Please sort the Samba/CIFS directory entries (Media Player) alphabetically.
- When browsing Samba or UPnP, it would be nice if going back (via Exit) takes you to the last position in the list of directories/albums. If you have a lot of music on your server, pressing OK on the wrong directory will make you scroll the entire list twice...
- In Samba/CIFS mode, it seems as if the top level (device) list is always refreshed, even when returning (via Exit). This refresh is very slow, so perhaps it is possible to cache the entries during a "browser session" and only refresh them on demand (via a separate button).
- Artist/Album info does not show up although the MP3 files have correct ID3 tags. Which ID3 versions does the Media Player support?
- bitrate (kbit) is not shown correctly for VBR MP3 files
|
Ok, noted. Of course both Samba and UPnP will be further improved.
Going back (exit) and arrive at the previous position has been added to several menu items already (like internet radio etc) and will be adapted to the others as well.
I am aware of the long time it takes on some of the networks. here it takes between 6 to 9 seconds to load all Samba devices. But I was told it takes sometimes up to a minute. So there either will be caching or some other way to speed up the device detection.
MPlayer supports all regular ID3 tags. However, when browsing the UPnP folders, we in the end have a link to the mp3 file. This link is passed to MPlayer and seems to be a streaming link. The UPnP device you browse is the server side and it streams the file. It seems it does not include any ID3 data inside. This means it is pretty much the same as tuning to an Internet radio stream that does not provide any icacast data. So thats the reason it is not displayed. To solve it, such data needs to be requested during browsing itself it seems. Again this might be different depending on the server side implementation. I will first focus on getting most UPnP devices playing then add the additional requests for ID3 data etc..
The bitrate is grabbed from MPlayer when it starts the stream or file. I guess in most cases it does not change for streams. Of course it is dynamic for MP3 files with VBR. However, MPlayer does not forward the changing bitrate to the main program. The bitrate can be requested from MPlayer, this would create a lot of interaction between the main program and MPlayer. Also by the time it is displayed it has probably already changed anyway. It was a choice to have the main application fairly 'inactive' while MPlayer is running so that all possible system resources are available to it. One option is to simply display that the file has a variable bitrate. Suggestions are welcome.

I did not find any mention of P1171 on there except for my own forum post there. I made a copy of the P1171 contents. I just tarred all directories to SD. Unfortunately SKYTC removed the recovery feature.. But we will get that installed somehow. Anyway, this means you should be careful with your experiments as solving problems is not as simple as on the older P1119.

Well, it still has to work. So it needs to be fixed. It would be great if we can get some feedback from people that tried UPnP.
What I need is: a) model/brand of the browsed UPnP device b) if it worked c) if it did not work: - it did not list the device at all ..or.. - it did list the device but there were no contents (did it work with the original firmware?), (did you make media available at the server side?)

Just like in the good old days with a cassette recorder | Correct, recording works on the Internet Radio list and on Shoutcast. I did not think of adding it to MyFavorites, so it will be in the next release. As said, it was experimental to get the discussion going and to see some feedback of how people expect such a feature to work. I already noticed that playing back some of the recorded stream types is not possible. At least the feature seems to work perfectg with MP3 streams. One of the things that I might add is indeed the stream ripper software to grab single songs. Other features might be recording at a given time and duration. Indeed record 'on the fly' should not be a problem either.

Excellent job William. I´ve upgraded without any problems and everythings seem to work ok. There´s onlu one thing I can´t figure out. I can hear music or watch movies via SAMBA from my computer, but when I press the Upnp button inside "media" there´s nothing. Am I doing anything wrong, or it´s supposed to work that way because I´m using SAMBA. Also a little explanation about diferences using Samba or upnp would be welcome. |
- Samba/CIFS It can be tricky with some hardware. Many things have been changed in the 1.4 firmware. By default browsing Samba shares over your network is active. So in theory a NAS drive or MAC/Windows PC should be found. However, unlike the 1.3 version, sharing the internal flash drive of the device via Samba is deactivated. This can be activated under settings. if you dont need to access the device's flash drive from another pc then leave it disabled as it eats up a fair bit of memory. When you select Samba in the media playe screen, your network is probed, Samba shares are searched and then listed. Searching can take between a few seconds and over a minute. Windows shares should work now as well. But you never know what exceptions are there. Unlike a commercial company that could setup a test bench with all kinds of situations and the most popular NAS drives, MAC's, PC's etc I can not affort to have that. Not really a problem as we just test and fix on the fly.. most of the Samba problems on 1.3 were due to incorrect authentication and exceptions on newer systems. This is known to affect Samba and a general issue.
- UPNP We use the Intel UPnP library which is pretty stable. There were however various issues that I stumbled upon. By digging deeper into the UPnP specifications it really is a fairly global spec and the implementation is different from device to device. Main difference here with Samba is that when you turn on the device, the bootup process connects to your Wifi Access Point, checks for a working connection, synchronizes the time and checks for firmware updates. After that it starts the UPnP routine which will gather data from your UPnP devices. Normally UPnP devices should broadcast a message announcing themselves and telling the other devices in the network that they 'exist'. If I go, after boot, streight to UPnP then there are no devices, if I wait a minute it sees all my NAS drives. (Zyxel Nas, QNAP with TwonkyMedia server, Win7 PC's). So it needs a little time to collect the data. What I noticed is that some deviceshandle requests in a totally different way than others. the earlier mentioned devices are both following a different method of returning their results.
If UPnP does not see any devices after a minute or two, I need to check if there is a way to force these requests. What you could do yourself in that case is turn on one of your UPnP devices after the radio has booted and see if it will pick it up in that case. Of course that means I am going to fix it.
I do not have 'Media' The Zyxel shows: Music, Pictures, Video The Qnap shows Music, Photos, Videos Each of them shows various options like browse by folder or artist etc.
Older NAS devices usually do not hav UPnP and just support Samba. Newer devices often support both. With Samba you select directories that you share. While with UPnP you usually select files/directories within the media server software. These do not have to be the same as full directory trees. Also UPnP makes indexes of all the shared data. While Samba is just directory browsing. (Last Edited by penbex on March 22, 2012, 10:04 pm)

W, UPNP I'm using TwonkyMedia 6.0.30 on a (MHDworld) hacked Emtec Mediaplayer/NAS, MediaTomb on 'Aldi' Dual-NAS, and WMP11 on XP/Win7 machine. None of these show up on the device under Upnp..... RECORDING Yes, extended RC selected in settings. When I press 'red' in radio list (favorites) I see no response (what should it do/say??). Nothing saved on internal/SD either. ROTATE Yes I did select correct RC. Rotate UP toggles between top line and empty line. This is resproducable 100%. WEATHER Yes, Europe and Benelux rain maps load fine with 'left'. Meanwhile I found out that when I push the 'red' button tot scroll through apps without properly exiting Weather from the main screen, the last rain map keeps on overwriting following screens.... Looks like a wallpaper QUESTION 1) Can the radio/TV stationlist be cached on the device, so that in case the server is bussy (like today), it can still be used ? 2) Can the RC 'Home' key be assigned to quickly return to the main menu? 3) Can the RC 'FAV' key be assigned to save playing radio/TV stations (found by browsing) to the favorites list ? Either on the unit or database. 4) Can the RC/unit 'left'-'right' keys in radio/TV playing mode be assigned to scroll to previous/next station? Now these keys seem to have no function. Keep up the good work!!

Excellent job William. I´ve upgraded without any problems and everything seems to work ok. There´s only one thing I can´t figure out. I can hear music or watch movies via SAMBA from my computer, but when I press the Upnp button inside "media" there´s nothing. Am I doing anything wrong, or it´s supposed to work that way because I´m using SAMBA?. Also a little explanation about diferences using Samba or upnp would be welcome. Thank you very much for your hard work Oscar. P.S. My device is a Xoro HMT350

The main menu has been split in two. The first 16 icons are still part of the main menu. The others have moved to a submenu. To see the other icons press the sub menu button.
Make sure you have selected the right remote control. Go to [settings], [remote control settings] [remote control model] then you will get a screen that tells you to press the [mute] button. The scancode for mute is used to determinte the correct model.
Besides the extended remote as supplied with most devices and simple remote supplied with the Xoro, it is also possible to use a Logitech Harmony.

Hi William,
Thanks for the new firmware!!!
Just one question though, how many icons are there? I can only see 16 right now and as far as I remember I had a lot more in the previous firmware, or am I getting crazy?
Kind regards,
Maurice

Directories full of music files are played as a playlist with the play button. Indeed when you select a video and press play the audio routine is incorrectly launched. in fact there is no directory player for videos (yet). This will be placed on the todo list and fixed in the next version.

simple way to see by going into the FAVORITES menu, then there is the list with TV stations, RADIO stations, podcasts, vodcasts and whatever, dark grey background, very visible flickering constantly. |
Uh.. that sounds very odd.. Here is a screen shot:

When I look very closely to the bottom grey bar it does look like you see a mild flicker inthe backlight. I noticed that the second generation of devices has its maximum brightness set a tiny bit lower. (Limited in the video driver it seems) Would this be the reason why? Do you have the image as above? Can you try the page up/down buttons and see if lowing or changing the brightness helps?
Note that the video driver is within the systems kernel and the Listenlive firmware uses the exact same kernel as the official firmware (although there are a bunch of fixes to things unrelated to video) So whatever you see must be there also with the official firmware. Also, the official firmware runs at maximum brightness all the time. With the Listenlive firmware you can lower the brightness.
Is this what you mean or do you see something else?

On the SD card, put the update_firmware.bin for the 1.4 firmware. besides that file, also put a file with the name "fs_fwrec" (contents of this file are not important.. it just needs to be there to trigger the failsafe mechanism) Insert the SD card into the device and power on.. If all is well, you should get a text screen.. press OK here and it will update to the 1.4 firmware.

My problem is apparently in the loader, not in the newer firmware, which I cannot flash yet..
| If you check on the bottom of the device it shows Aldi product number PO-1171 on a white sticker. Go to the download section and get the loader for the "PO-1171 RM003" The PO-1119 is the older model that was sold at Aldi last year..

Can you start the clock along with radio Internet? |
under settings you can choose if you want to see an analog or digital clock. This setting is saved. So if you select analog then whenever you go to the clock you get to see an analog clock.
This is the same for selecting the daytime/nighttime clock image or when you are listening to music and press the clock button.
While listening to music you can also see the news, weather and stocks.

Joop, on the SD card where you put the 1.4 update_firmware.bin file.. also put a file with the name "fs_fwrec".
Reboot the device with the SD card inserted.. this should bring you back into failsafe mode. then press OK when you have the text screen and it should load the 1.4 firmware.

Once you press mute it should detect the Penbex remote and map the buttons accordingly.
- Fixed: Samba: now able to browse Netgear ReadyNAS models. - Fixed: Samba: now able to browse Windows 7 machines. Anonymous viewing of Win 7 shares was in most cases not possible. Now Win 7 is correctly detected and username/password are aasked. Alternative is to change Win 7 settings for shares. - Fixed: Sleeptime had a problem with the date change, should be fixed now. - Fixed: Main device volume survives reboots (it is saved and restored when the device is turned off/on) - Fixed: playing random tracks when in playlist mode - Fixed: some small bugs - Fixed: Clock now displays month and day in the correct language - Fixed: Manual AccessPoint connection fixed, hidden SSID should work now too - Fixed: "Restart last played Music link" in some cases stops responding to key input so it will play forever or until you unplug power.. - Fixed: After the night brightness fix not surviving a reboot the brightness and night brightness got tangled. - Fixed: a bug that showed the SD card inserted icon incorrectly in some cases - Fixed: Menu navigation remembers position in most menu screens when going back to a previous screen - Fixed: Weather location selection was showing just the city, now shows city + country/state
- Changed: stock market now shows major stock market data (DJ/NYSE,SMI,AEX,CAC,DAX and more) - Changed: Sleep timer volume will go down in steps in the last 3, 2 and 1 minute. - Changed: Rearranged the Network Settings screen - Changed: Improved network stability and detection - Changed: Samba Server is now disabled by default. Can be enabled in the settings screen - Changed: News module has been improved. better support for some RSS types, more feeds added as well - Changed: Twitter module has been improved. following Twitter API now too - Changed: Modified memory usage to improve behaviour - Scrollover the top of the menu to the beginning of the list is an option now. It can be activated in the settings screen - Changed: Moved the external media related buttons (USA Today, Revision3, Discovery HD, CNN etc etc.) to a sub menu. Sub menu can be reached with the menu button - Changed: The text of the selected menu item is now printed in Yellow in the main and sub menu. So when the glass "selector" tile is not visible the text will help.
v1.3a - dated: 07 january 2012 - When network was set to "OFF" the system would crash. No longer possible. - Fixed Static IP. - Fixed the screen refresh settings not updating the display correctly. - Fixed asf streams not being recognized correctly (eg. N-TV stream now correctly identified and playing)
v1.3 - dated: 06 january 2012 - Added volume control for small remotes like used with Xoro. - Fixed top buttons. - By slowing down the device key responses key repetition got broken. It is working again now. but needs a long press. Need more test results to fine tune. - Fixed a cache bug on Podcast and Vodcast favorites. - Can now play the last played stream/file. No matter if this was before a powerdown or just some minutes ago. You can find a new option under "my favorites" where you can select "Play last audio link" to play whatever radio/mp3 file you played last. - FAV button goes directly to favorites screen - Fixed the FM tuning scale. - Fixed some stream types that refused to play. - When updating from an older firmware version the sleeptimer 'icon' got activated but not the sleeptimer itself. Fixed. - After deleting the access point list, wpa_supplicant still remembered the configuration requiring a reboot. Should be solved now. - WPA2 had some bugs causing it to fail. Routers set to WPA and WPA/WPA2 mixed were working fine. Pure WPA2 was often failing. Completely rewrote the network routines. Open, WEP, WPA and WPA2 should work now. Routines now use low level socket functions. - Static IP still failed to work due to some remembered settings. Fixed now. - Fixed the Wifi Signal strength indicator. Now it gives the real signal strength. - Twitter page now shows special characters correctly (like ÿüë etc.) - Failsafe mode now more powerful - In previous versions, the remote control buttons are used in a compatibility mode. This means only buttons that are on all remote controls are used. Now its possible to select the correct remote control type in the setup screen. No real selection is needed, just the [Mute] button has to be pressed. Since Mute is different on each model the program determines what type to use. The selection is stored so you only have to do it once. During the selection, any button other than [Mute] will push the selection back to compatibility mode. - Now that the remotes are identified, new button options have been introduced. In most cases [Home] will take you to the top of lists. [Clock] gets you to the day time clock mode. [Fav] to the favorites menu, [FM] to the FM screen, [Int Radio] and [Int. TV] to the Internet Radio/TV screens. - Twitter and Weather data gets refreshed automatically if you activate screen refreshing in the settings screen.
v1.2a - dated: 25 december 2011 - Fixed the volume button. - When the sleep timer is used, the setting survived reboots. Fixed now.
v1.2 - dated: 25 december 2011 - Added failsafe mode! If for whatever reason the application crashes, there is a backup plan. This only works on the application. It does not protect against Linux failures etc. There is a real recovery mode for this but unfortunately not installed on all models. It can however be installed on working devices that do not have the recovery already! Special files to add the recovery mode will be released after further tests. - Slowed down device key responses. - Added Samba username/password logins. Device first tries with guest login if that fails it will ask for username and password. - Fixed a few small screen print issues. - Fixed obtaining Gateway/Router address.
v1.1 - dated: 22 december 2011 Fixed (or at least they are supposed to be fixed): - most connection problems should have been solved When you power up, there is a red "network" icon in the lower right hand corner. This means the network has not been setup yet. This red "network" icon will change to green when the network drivers and configuration has been loaded. If the network has been setup correctly, the green icon should change to a white signal strength indicator within a few seconds.. At this point the connection is working properly. (the connection has been tested by a probe to a public server and there was a check for new firmware on the ListenLive server) - Static IP now also works - Network status has been modified and gives more details - Top device buttons can be used in most of the menus/screens - Under settings, setting "MyFavorites user account" will instantly clear the favorites cache. - French language has been added - Stocks are working - MediaPlayer previous/next song works. - Manual setting the time works. (and survives reboots) - NZ times should have been fixed. - Clock brightness reset issue is fixed. - OGG File support - Flac file support - FM Radio digits repositioned - Auto Power Off / Sleeptimer added - Deleting stored wifi networks - Improved Samba - Twitter account setting is now correctly saved - FM Radio presets added. Now Radio has 2 operation modes, Tuning mode and Preset mode. Toggle mode with OK button. In preset mode use < and > to switch between the six on screen stored frequencies. In Tuning mode use ^and V for freq. up/down scanning, < and > for regular tuning up/down in .10 mhz steps. Press FAV to assign freq. to currently selected memory preset. - The Alarm clock has been fixed. Alarm can be set once, every day, mon-fri, mon-sat and weekend only. OK/Directional pad activates snooze, exit/menu button deactivates the alarm.

Firmware 1.4 has been released. Post you findings in this thread. I will use this post to keep track of the status and fixes that have been done already in the upcoming release. In the next post you can see what has been changed in each version. Of course the things that have been previously reported will remain on the wishlist until they either have been added or have been dropped
A lot of work has been put in making a new loader that is able to instal the recovery mode on devices that do not have this feature from the factory.
Now: Final testing and preparing of the distribution archive
Loader 2.00: Changed the entire program. The loader now displays several options. Navigation is done with the [up/down] buttons on the remote and the device. [ok] will select an option, [exit] will abort. After selecting an option exit will NOT return to the main menu but simply reboot or turn off the device. This is a design choice since most options are too risky to be executed without reboots/powering off.
The loader has the following options: - 1. Regular firmware update (Now using llfirmware.upd !! for regular updates and update-firmware for the loader) - 2. Install the recovery mode to the device - 3. Start application main from the SD Card - 4. Clean device config files and cache - 5. System Information - 6. System Recovery - 7. Power off
Note that option 6 is only available when the loader is used as recovery mode application. Options 1-5 are only available when used as failsafe or firmware loader
Firmware 1.41: Improved overal stability. Last minute changes: Added: If a stream stops due to an empty cache it will restart up to 3 times. (can be turned off in "volume and player settings") Note that this feature works perfect in some cases, in other cases it might just fail 3 times in a row. Added: Video is now automatically scaled to full screen. (can be turned off in "volume and player settings") Changed: News page font changed from 10p to 12p Changed: Twitter page shows 5 tweets per page, was 7 Changed: Twitter page font changed from 10p to 12p Added: Latest Movie Trailers from a well-known source Added: some additional system information that is needed for recovery modes. Added: When the alarm is set to the last player url, it is stored seperately. This means you can set Alarm1 to the last played station, then tune to a new station, set Alarm 2 to that one and then listen to a different station with the sleep timer. This solves the problem of going to sleep with one station and waking up with another. Added: Sleep timer countdown is displayed on the clock screen.
