Topic: Cheap Disgo TVGO at Argos

I just picked up a few cheap KMP510 devices at the local ALDI outlet.....
All P1119 KMP510.1 version with 2GB and extended remote control.
All NEW IN BOX  (customer returns??).

I can forward them at €55 a piece, excluding postal charges.
If interested, just contact me through this forum (credentials known).

For information, it seems that Argos are no longer selling the Disgo.
A used Xenta KMP510 sold for £52 on ebay UK last night!

the WIFI symbols shows full strength, and the weather channel works
too, incl the 5-day forcast. so does NEWS, STOCKS and TWITTER.

on the submenu, CNN and ANIMAL PLANET and all the others show
their main menu, but do not actually play.

so it looks as if the internet connection is there for sure.

Telnet not working seems strange. Do you have an internet connection at all with these boxes?
Perhaps for news/weather/stocks... ?

william, i wasnt trying to be pushy. i anyhow dont understand where you
take the time from to spend so much effort on all this.

i am up to any suggestion. i think i can manage the telnet bit, but as you
say, if we talk while doing it (SKYPE in the evening, or even normal
phone - i can call free from here to fixed NL-lines) it should be better.

alternativly, since i am not anymore pressed for time, i could mail you
one of the two, and you can disect it directly as much as you like.

update in a short while, will check the alarm and the memory.

here the update: alarm works fine, very loud! would even wake me up.

telnet does not work: have the correct IP for sure, but it comes back with
NO RESPONSE (port 23).

telnet into the ARNOVA and XORO works fine, so it is not my system or
the router blocking anything.

 >> Keep the back and power buttons pressed.. then insert the power cable..
 >> They should startup with some message about recovery files

no, that just freezes it at the original (TVGO) startup screen. same with short
pressing, or pressing them forever.

Sorry, work asked for a lot of time the last week or so...
Of course you are not going to throw them away.

Test if the alarm sound play.. (they do not use mplayer but madplay)

Then we need to know what is there in your box. This works best via telnet.
If you feel more confident we can do some tests while I assist you via msn/icq/skype so that you have direct help.

You first need to know the IP address of your device.  (eg. 192.168.1.100)
Then open a dos box and start telnet with the ip address.. (eg  telnet 192.168.1.100)
then you get a login request, use the name "root" and it should log you in and get you to the linux command prompt.

Then we need to do some checks for available memory and a few other things.

What I am thinking of, is that these boixes might have a problem with the flash memory.
Dont worry, they can be fixed.  MPlayer is the largest file on there. It is possible that this one failed.
So we can test and we can even add the file if its broken..
I would first need to know the available space on the device.
On the linux prompt type "df" (without quotes) and let me know what the results are.

It would be easier to do this via a chat session as that would allow me to resond on the outcome of commands.
otherwise mail me and we do it through that.

i was afraid if i asked on April 1st that i would get some really funny answers,
but this day has passed. so pls, somebody out there pls tell me i dont have to
throw away those two new TVGOs.

 >> When you say they are bricked what exactly  happens at power up and did Ver 1.4 load correctly?

see the description in the 1.4 thread (mssg #155 and onwards). both loader and 1.4 loaded perfectly, and
everything is there. only playing ANY (!) file/radio/TV gives a server error. william actually explained what
it is, and am sure we/he will find a solution.

problem is one of them was meant to be a birthday present, this weekend. so the girl gets an old scratched
ARNOVA instead. at least for the time being.

william, didnt want to bother you here too, just thought somebody with a similar problem might turn up.
but before i try this 'recovery', what do i actually DO once this mssg shows up?

Also try the recovery startup.

Keep the back and power buttons pressed.. then insert the power cable..
They should startup with some message about recovery files.

My Disgo works very well on Version 1.4.

When you say they are bricked what exactly  happens at power up and did Ver 1.4 load correctly?

did anybody but me fall for this and had better luck?

bought two, tested them shortly (all fine), then moved both at the same
time to FW 1.4, and now have bricks - good looking bricks though.

anybody with similar experience, and maybe a way out?

feel kind of stupid, since nothing like this happened with 6 other devices
(Xoro, PEARL, Arnova) that i converted, for me and family.

now £36.99  + $5.95 pnp

Very good offer..In NL the Aldi offers the  Envivo again for 80 euros.

Argos have reduced their Disgo TV Go to £44.99 (online only) which seems a good price to me.

Just a tip if you get one- don't do the online update or you will have a non-working radio.

I eventually got mine working on Listenlive with a lot of help from William.
